Rampage’s dad speaks…
By Zach Arnold | July 2, 2008
… and he’s a pretty good interview. We know where he got some of his charisma from:
Ok. You know Quinton is always telling bad breath jokes. Well I was the first to start it with him. We were in McDonald’s one day, Quinton was deciding on what to order. He said, “I don’t know what I want.” I replied “You know what you need to order?” he said, “What?” I said, ” You need to order a great big Tic Tac.” It was funny. Everybody was laughing. From then on, we would always joke on each other’s breath.

Rob Maysey: Ali Act should apply to MMA
By Zach Arnold | July 1, 2008
Rob Maysey was our featured guest on the last edition of Fight Opinion Radio (audio here). He was on our show to discuss the new Zuffa LLC merchandise marketing rights agreement that the company wanted fighters to sign.
Today, Rob is back with a new article, making the argument that the Muhammad Ali Act should apply to MMA. Well worth the read.

Changes in embedded site feeds
By Zach Arnold | June 30, 2008
As you may have noticed, we are slowly but surely changing the feeds currently embedded on our site. We’re going to be adding some new feeds and perhaps getting rid of some that aren’t making the cut. A couple of things that are brought up because of these changes:
1) There is so much MMA-related content right now online that it’s practically impossible to link to every MMA site known to man on our current theme/format. As it stands, there’s a lot of content (perhaps content overload) right now on this site and our goal is to make things as simple as possible. If you go to our site, you should be able to read what we have written and also get the headlines from the other major sites. Our goal is to keep that going, but if we have to change around the design of the site to keep up with the massive amount of expanding MMA media coverage, then so be it.
2) We need to get more blog-related content on the site, either through bringing on new writers (last go-round didn’t seem to produce many results) or by syndicating content from smaller MMA sites onto ours in exchange for some publicity and linkage. If you are interested in working with us on either option, contact us right here.

Monday morning review (6/30/08)
By Zach Arnold | June 30, 2008
Here’s a report claiming that Delaware could soon ban MMA.
Jake Rossen asks whether or not we should care about Quinton Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin at UFC 86. It harkens back to a debate hardcores love to have online, which is how effective or ineffective UFC has been in marketing Jackson (as compared to Chuck Liddell). My take on the amount of coverage the fight is getting is that it’s about at the right level — most people think Jackson is going to win and do so comfortably. Sure, we will get a slew of TV shows and news stories hyping up the event starting on Wednesday. With that said, it’s a one-match show for the casual fans and that one match isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. Ben Fowlkes, as usual, has his own take on the matter at hand.

Revamping embedded RSS feeds
By Zach Arnold | June 29, 2008
As you might have noticed lately, a lot of the various audio feeds that we embedded on the site to different MMA radio shows are either not being updated or the content is sporadic. In short, that is not on our end — there’s just a lack of regular audio content, lately, which surprises us.
In order to make room for new MMA news feeds, we are going to have to revamp the audio & video RSS feeds that we currently embed. We need your help in the following areas:
1) Coming up with some RSS feeds of MMA-themed audio shows that are good and people would care about
2) Coming up with an RSS feed for individual Low Blow Radio posts from the Fightlinker site (their Talkshoe RSS feed for shows is lousy, so we need an alternative to link to for new programs)
3) Coming up with RSS feeds for video-related content (whether it be NBC’s online deal, ESPN’s MMA Live program, YouTube clips, etc.)
If you can help contribute RSS feeds in any of these categories, please submit your suggestions to us using this contact form. The reason we need to re-vamp the RSS feeds is that we need to organize the white space better on the site. So, if you can spare us a few minutes, please help us out.
Many thanks.

The Drew Fickett/Mark Pavelich feud
By Zach Arnold | June 28, 2008
Keep your eyes open to this little spat between fighter and promoter.
Start with this MMA Rated post. That link went to a post that originally had audio which they purported to be of a voicemail message from Mark Pavelich. After we linked to that post, the audio clip has been pulled from their site.
Scott White at TKO Xtreme (link here) has transcribed what Pavelich’s supposed voicemail message said:
“It’s Mark Pavelich calling from the Maximum Fighting Championship,
I’ve just received notice that Drew Fickett or you, I don’t care which one of you fuckers did it, has signed a contract to fight in Strikeforce this fucking weekend. I’m going to get on a fucking plane soon and go where you’re at and choke you the fuck out. I’m telling you right now, I’ve had enough of your fucking shit. First of all, I’ve sent you the fucking pictures and secondly, I placed Drew Fickett in a fight fucking months ago and five weeks prior to my main event of my fucking fight card. You’re going to give me a fucking call tomorrow or I swear I’ll get on a fucking plane and go right where you’re at right now. You’re pissing me off, I’ve been nothing but professional to you motherfuckers and you’re doing this kind of bullshit, alright? Call me back, I’m fucking pissed.”
Make sure to click on the link to Scott’s report to read more on this situation.

MMARatings.net
By Zach Arnold | June 28, 2008
The author of MMARatings.net is asking readers to check out his web site and send him feedback to [email protected]. Help him out, if you can. Many thanks. Personally, I like the site. I’m not sure where it fits in with Fight Metric, CompuStrike, etc. however.

Melendez loses in Strikeforce: What’s next for Gilbert?
By Zach Arnold | June 27, 2008
Josh Thomson beat him tonight in San Jose. If a video of the fight surfaces, we’ll link to it. For those of us stuck in Comcast-land, getting HDNet Fights is not easy unless you have a dish. I’d love to see HDNet Fights put some of their recent content in embeddable video format (like MSNBC) so that bloggers could give the network some free advertising online.
FWIW, Miesha Tate was +300 and Josh Thomson was +350 at the BodogLife online sportsbook. Some coin was made if you picked either one of them. No wonder people love betting on MMA.
CompuStrike has stats of last night’s fights on the Strikeforce show. Erin Bucknell of MMACalifornia.net fame has a show report on her site, as well.
