Nick Lembo statement on newly-proposed Unified MMA rules

By Zach Arnold | July 6, 2008

It should be noted that the ABC meeting with regard to the unified rules are merely suggestions to the membership.

The ABC should clarify its bylaws and its formal name since MMA is such a growing sport that it intends to address.

Each jurisdiction must go back and individually adopt the changes and amendments.

Wacky ad spot of the day

By Zach Arnold | July 4, 2008

So I was reading this article by Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports on the Quinton Jackson/Juanito Ibarra relationship, and in the middle of the article there is this ad:

Notice what the ad is about. It’s an ad for Medical Hair Restoration featuring WWE wrestler Chavo Guerrero Jr. wearing an Affliction T-shirt. Do people actually buy hair treatments because a professional wrestler is marketing the service in question?

I guess that’s one way to cover your bases for fight promotions, and yet another Affliction spot in an ad. They’re taking over the world.

Affliction’s NYT ad buy campaign

By Zach Arnold | July 3, 2008

Couple of things that stand out about this…

1) I saw the ad while reading a political article on the NY Times web site.

2) It’s an ad that contains no PPV information whatsoever and simply an ad asking you to buy tickets. Even if the NYT is considered a ‘national’ newspaper in America, the fact is the majority of the readers are in… New York. The show is happening on 7/19 in Anaheim, California. Wouldn’t a direct ad buy in The LA Times or even the San Diego Union-Tribune make more sense?
