Sengoku 9/28 Tokyo, Yoyogi National Stadium Gym I event results

By Zach Arnold | September 28, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

No attendance was given for this show (this is becoming a tradition for Sengoku).

  1. Jorge Masvidal defeated Ryan Schultz in R1 in 1’57 by referee stoppage.
  2. Kiuma Kunioku defeated A Sol Kwon after 3R by a 3-0 judges’ decision.
  3. Middleweight GP Series 2008: Siyar Bahadurzada defeated Evangelista Cyborg in R1 in 0’25 by tap-out (injury).
  4. Middleweight GP Series 2008: Jorge Santiago defeated Logan Clark in R2 in 3’35 by submission.
  5. Middleweight GP Series 2008: Kazuhiro Nakamura defeated Paul Cahoon after 3R by a 3-0 judges’ decision.
  6. Middleweight GP Series 2008: Yuki Sasaki defeated Yuki Kondo in R2 in 1’08 with a choke sleeper hold.
  7. King Mo defeated Travis Wiuff in R1 2’11 by referee stoppage.
  8. Xande Ribeiro defeated Takashi Sugiura (NOAH) in R3 in 4’18 by referee stoppage.

Josh Barnett made an apperance as a media heat-up for Sengoku’s 1/4 Saitama Super Arena show. We know Josh is likely going to fight at Sengoku’s 11/1 Saitama event. If Fedor works in Japan on NYE and Josh fights on 1/4… where does Affliction stand in the mix?

Videos of the fights can be seen here.

  1. 45 Huddle says:

Ryan Schultz went from IFL Champion to a career on life support with 2 fights in Japan. Not good.

Travis Wiuff choked again. Not a shock.

I’d have to say Jorge Santiago is the favorite to win the tournament. I guess winning a Strikeforce and WVR Tournament can’t hurt a career, but neither tournament has top level guys in it. It will still do a good job on getting his name back on the map with some fans.

As for Affliction, we really need to see how their contracts are structured. If they can’t stop Barnett & Fedor from fighting only a few weeks before their card, then they obviously did a horrible job signing these fighters.

    Good comment 45.

Xande was great last night! And K-1 Seoul ratings were high as I expected!

    Ty Zach.

  3. liger05 says:

Takashi Sugiura didnt do that badly. Showed some decent takedown defence but the finish was clinical.

  4. Marcus says:

Anyone see the Siyar Bahadurzada vs Evangelista Cyborg fight? UGLY injury, Bahadurzada and Cyborg were fighting for a takedown, and Cyborg landed on his arm and dislocated his elbow ala Shogun. The fight is on youtube, and of course there’s slow motion replays of the injury to make you cringe.

  5. cacti says:

Nakamura vs Santiago in the finals. But looking at the LW semi matches they might put Nakamura-Santiago is the semis. having mitsuoka-Kitaoka in the semis is stupid.
