Updated DREAM 3/15 Saitama card line-up

By Zach Arnold | March 6, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

As it stands right now:

Lightweight GP tournament matches:

Katsuhiko Nagata vs. Artur Umakhanov
Andre Dida vs. Eddie Alvarez
Mitsuhiro Ishida vs. Jung Bu-Kyung
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Black Mamba
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Luiz Buscape
Kotetsu Boku vs. Joachim Hansen
Shin’ya Aoki vs. JZ Calvan

Welterweights: Hayato “Mach” Sakurai vs. Hidetaka Monma
Plus: Mirko Cro Cop & Minowaman in action

Speaking of dark humor — Takumi Yano opens his mouth about the yakuza and Yoshihiro Nakao. K-1 must be thrilled.

  1. The Gaijin says:

    Mirko vs. KISS..zzzzzzz

  2. Matt says:

The Pride / Heroes squooged together feels kinda weird… interested to see what the production looks like and how the fights play out.

  3. Dave says:

Cro Cop vs Yoshihiro Nakao.. Ehhh

  4. Marcus says:

I was looking forward to Gilbert Melendez fighting in this, but that’s not happening. Now I want to see JZ or Eddie Alvarez win the whole thing.

  5. Samscaff says:

As much as I wanted to love this Dream GP. Its looking not that great.

I mean, some of the fights look good, but for a real LW GP in Japan, you gotta have Gomi and Melendez…and others.

  6. The Gaijin says:

I can’t believe Melendez dropped out to defend the Strikeforce belt against a non-entity.

He couldn’t have had that fight postponed to fight in the GP? Seems like a more prestigious endeavor than the likely destroying of Marcello.

  7. The Gaijin says:

Fedor’s possible free agency seems to make things a little more interesting. Imagine he signs with the UFC now?

Would that make this entire mess with Couture a moot point or would Couture continue to hold out on “respect grounds”? Wouldn’t it be something if White signed Fedor and gave Randy the boot out of spite…

On the otherhand, its probably a lot more likely he’ll sign with Cuban – actually – it’s probably more likely he’ll continue to deal with his “crazy Russian” agents and do questionable things with his legacy.

  8. Jeremy says:

They have announced 7 fights for the GP. My guess is that Gilbert will step into the second round.

  9. Rictor says:

They have announced also that because of Melendez and Strikeforce situation and injuries of Uno and Shaolin the last bout of the GP will be held on DREAM 2 featuring two from the three mentioned fighters or if this won’t happen one of them will advance to the quarterfinals.

  10. cyphron says:

    Mirko “Can Crusher” Filipovic.

I believe defending a real belt of a real organization is more prestigious than participating in a tournament of a wannabe Pride organization that may or may not be around in 12 months.

Will Cuban pay Fedor the money that UFC pays? Cuban may be a fantastically rich man, but he’s a smart businessman as well. I doubt he will pay a premium for Fedor. However, Fedor can always fight for change if he really wants to keep competing in amateur tournaments where he knows he would destroy all comers. Whatever floats his boat.

  11. just another mark says:

    NO BUYS

  12. PizzaChef says:

I think yakuza is becoming our secret word. So in the spirit of Pee Wee’s Playhouse, I say that every time that Zach has yakuza in his article, we should all yell and scream.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111

  13. Cacti45 says:

there will only be 7 bouts in the LWGP on March 15th. Then on April 29th they will have a bout between Shaolin, Uno, and Melendez. (only 2 of them will fight though, duh) If that isnt feasable they will just seed 1 of them in the 2nd round.

  14. Zack says:

I predict Hansen to upset JZ in the finals with another Viking Kneeblast.

  15. pretty crazy about the yakuza. Why the heck would they object to Nakao fighting Crocop? Why would they care?

  16. ET says:

To everyone complaining about Crocop vs Nakao.

What was so much better about Eddie Sanchez in Mirko’s UFC debut?

Nakao is a solid fighter, nothing special, exactly the type of fight you’d expect Mirko to be in coming off back to back losses and it is in a new org that is just getting off the ground.

  17. Sergio says:

“Plus: Mirko Cro Cop & Minowaman in action”

Let’s just see a rematch of their opening round Openweight tournament bout.

That was hotly contested and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Loser has to take Nakao out on a date and PAY!

  18. ilostmydog says:

I predict Boku to destroy Hansen in the first round of the tournament via vastly superior striking!

  19. mmafan says:

Why didn’t DREAM announce Mirko vs. Nakao if Yakuza story is bullshit??
