The Ultimate Fighter Season 4, Episode 11

By Erin | October 26, 2006

By Erin Bucknell

Update: Din Thomas has a message for those of you who thought this week’s TV fight was boring.

I argue that we haven’t seen nearly enough of Randy and GSP this season, and there is no excuse of this! Well, other than the fact that it’s about the fighters and not the trainers, but really, that’s soooo beside the point.

We get a review of last week’s fight, which I really could have lived without because of Shonie’s jock, sigh.

At the house, Pete Spratt is testing walls for durability as he plans on running through a wall. Mikey Burnett takes this as a challenge and decides to try it himself. After several attempts all he succeeds in doing is putting some large dents into it.

Later that night they get to watch the finals of season 3. This pretty much pumps everyone up and Pete Sell says that he doesn’t even know what that much money looks like.

The next morning, Burnett decorates his wall damage into an outline of himself.

During the weigh-ins, Travis Lutter does the “towel weigh-in” which turns out to be a good plan as he comes in at 185 ½.

Chuck Liddell shows up as a guest coach and helps Pete Sell train for the fight.

Gideon Ray gets irked at Captain Miserable for finishing off his milk and Shonie Carter shows off his card throwing tricks. This evolves into a full out Fling-War with forts, armor and all kinds of objects. Mikey ends up accidentally stuck in his large cardboard “helmet”.

Apparently Team No Love has given up on doing anything except Travis Lutter, who’s pretty much left to train by himself with the exception of one of the coaches.

Travis Lutter vs. Pete Sell

Round one: The fight goes up against the fence rather quickly before Lutter gets a takedown as Serra tells Sell “use your jiu-jitsu” in the same tone as someone telling a toddler to “use your words”. Lutter moves around to side control and starts working for an arm. Lutter remains in control for the rest of the round, managing to open a small cut on Sell’s head.

Round two: Sell tries using more stand up this time around but he still ends up on the mat after a takedown by Lutter. Sell keeps Lutter locked in half guard for a bit before getting full guard. Big John keeps trying to encourage them to do more. Lutter goes for the arm again but Sell manages to fight it off. Lutter moves to side control and pretty much sticks to elbowing Sell in the side of the head before going back to trying for an arm.

Normally I’m a big fan of Matt Serra’s loud ass encouragement, but ten minutes of “you can sit there all day” to Sell while he’s on his back just seems like the most overly optimistic shit ever. Although… Lutter does looks rather exhausted at the end of the round.

Round three: Lutter takes them up against the fence and then down to the mat just as quickly as the other two rounds. Lutter get full mount for a moment before Sell wiggles him back into to half guard. Big John stands them up and restarts the fight. Sell grabs a guillotine but Lutter slips out and is back to his much loved elbows. Lutter throws in a few knees to the body and moves Sell up against the fence. Round ends.

Well, unless Pete Sell was doing something amazing in there that I totally missed, that fight was all Travis Lutter winning.

Winner: Travis Lutter (via judges’ decision)

We get a random moment of Forrest Griffin congratulating Lutter after the fight, though really aren’t all things out of Forrest are rather random?

Next week: More crazy antics in the house, plus Edwin DeWees vs. Patrick Cote (with the winner facing Travis Lutter).

Here is the upcoming Ultimate Fight Night live card line-up.

  1. Well Din, I work as a Business Manager & Consultant. So even though I don’t “change oil” or “salt fries”, I still felt the fight sucked.

  2. Rich says:

That is the greatest thing I’ve ever read in my life.

  3. Erin says:

But not nearly as great as actually seeing Mikey with that monstrosity on his head.

  4. Psygone says:

Sprats bit about Burnet being a Leprechaun from Okalahoma was hilarious.
