The Japanese Marketplace

Stephen Martinez at Sherdog has a column about the current marketplace for MMA in Japan, and more specifically the war between PRIDE & K-1. Martinez is 100% accurate in his comparisons about the promotional marketing machines of K-1 and DSE, and he also goes on to give a Top 10 list of solutions to improve the situation.

On the larger question (of whether or Japan is still the dominant MMA marketplace in the world), I would suggest that Japan is still a solid market. It’s still the richest market for sponsorships and advertising (given the country’s structure). However, if you believe in growth as the #1 determining factor (like the stock market), then North America & Great Britain are the rising countries to pay attention to.
