Report: Noboru Yamaguchi out

By Zach Arnold | November 19, 2006

Comments off

Consider this insider baseball-style news. It is intriguing news, however, if you follow the inside politics of DSE and the Japanese fight industry. NHB News has an item claiming that Noboru Yamaguchi, main editor of Kami no Puroresu (a magazine very much supportive of PRIDE, and sometimes K-1 on a smaller scale), is resigning from his post. Yamaguchi has had various business dealing with DSE in the past (including a role as part of the Hustle pro-wrestling brain trust and also running some merchandising operations with DSE).

PRIDE and WWE doing business together?

By Stephan | November 17, 2006

Use this link if the image doesn’t load fully for you

Comment from Zach: Only WWE.com could find a way to have the phrases Big Dick Johnson and Let’s Go to Prison on their news page when talking about PRIDE. The Underground Forum and Sherdog threads about this developing story.

By Stephan Marceau

This is getting interesting (or may be getting interesting), not sure that Zach will like this, check this out at WWE.com.

Earlier today, WWE.com learned that WWE officials and members of the group PRIDE had a meeting scheduled this morning at WWE global headquarters in Stamford, Conn. The meeting would focus on the possibility of the two groups doing some form of business together in the future.

World Wrestling Entertainment is a multimedia conglomerate with a presence in films, music, and sports-entertainment around the world. Known for its unique brand of competition, PRIDE is a major championship mixed martial arts organization based in Japan.

I don’t know much about wrestling, but they have definitely lost viewership to Zuffa (and merchandising). Evolution about to happen perhaps?

A lot of news stories and articles today. Take 5-10 minutes out of your busy schedule to read the various links and analysis. Then come back here and write your feedback.

Hint: Dana White responds to the new Showtime deal with JD Penn.

Update: The TUF Finale last Saturday night for UFC drew a 1.06 US cable rating. I had predicted a 1.2 rating, and even then I thought it might have been low. On the NSAC’s show results page, you’ll notice that Gene LeBell’s name is listed as a visiting judge for this show.
