I’m going to predict that Marquardt vs. Okami is actually going to be exciting. That’s me wacky prediction and I’m sticking to it.
There really isn’t anything else on this card that I care about. It’s a perfect example of how the UFC really needed the lower weight classes if they want to put on 2 “number” shows a month, even if one of them is free.
I think you’re right. Okami is more comfortable standing now and each man’s wrestling ability will cancel out their opponent’s.
I think they really need to cut back on the events also.
I also hate having to wait a whole month+ to see some good MMA, but what I find even more heart breaking is getting all worked up all month and then getting this and the WEC card.
BTW: I haven’t seen the Marq/Okami fight yet (I ditched my satellite service) but it sounds like you may have been right.
This is a practical joke by Dana.
He bet the Fertitta brothers $20 that he could get German MMA fans to pay money to see Yushin Okami in a main event.
🙂
I could totally believe that.
I wonder what kind of tv ratings this will get; I can’t imagine there are 1 million people who would watch Yushin Okami fight, even for free.
Less than 2 million viewers average, and the peak for the main event will blow too.
UFC 120 averaged 1.9 Million, so saying this event will get less then 2 Million is basically a guarantee. I was actually surprised that UFC 120 did as high as it did considering the card.
Don’t underestimate the power of TUF. TUF ratings have been stronger then usual this year. A few of the recent shows have been between 1.7 Million and 1.9 Million viewers. All of those people are seeing commercials for this card. And there isn’t much else on TV. Baseball is over. Basketball is just starting up. College Football hasn’t hit that interesting cycle yet.
This show is likely to do 1.5 to 1.7 Million, with a possibility to be higher. I wouldn’t be shocked if it came close to matching UFC 120.
On a topic that actually is much more interesting than this dogshit card, what do you guys expect in Hughes-Penn 3 and Machida v Rampage?
BJ dominated the first one, dominated the 2nd one until he tore his rib cartilage, and I don’t see how he doesn’t dominate the third match. However, given that when BJ doesn’t train with Marv Marinovich he tends to seem nowhere near in the shape he is in when he does train with Marv, there is always a sadly high likelihood that BJ will come into this fight undertrained, looking kinda flabby (like in his last 2 fights), and gas.
Hughes, for his part, is enjoying a bit of a career renaissance, but I just don’t think he can stand with BJ, and he doesn’t have the explosion that he used to in his takedowns. I got BJ by KO.
In re: Rampage v Machida, Rampage has the hand and foot speed of Keith Jardine at this point in his career and isn’t nearly as strong as he used to be. I don’t see how he stops Machida from dancing all around him and landing at will. I got Machida KO.
Those European ratings are pretty damn good if they are true.
Looking forward to Nate vs. Okami, this is going to be a statement for either guy to show he is ready for a title shot. And it’s Nate’s fight to lose here, this is probably his last shot to get another crack at Anderson and he can’t afford to blow it he needs to come out and be the killer that he’s been and take out Okami.
If the ratings are like that in Italy, why not run there where they are wanted instead of Germany where they are not? Bizarre.
Main event holds some interest. I don’t hate the Rivera/Sakara fight but it isn’t important to me either. I do want to see all the old guys on the show – Bang, VMat, and Seth. Chances are I won’t be able to though.
Italy is a really hard place for foreigners to run promotions. The levels of corruption are off the chart, and the bureaucracy is both enormous and complicated; it is like navigating a series of mazes.
They probably want to be in the middle of Europe and are expecting the fans to travel, which they are less likely to do as Italy is in the south.
I like Marqhardt over Okami. Does more, does it better. Will be interesting to see who if anyone decides to push for the takedown and if they get it. Only way I see Marqhardt possibly losing is if he ends up on the bottom, but I just don’t see that happening.
Winner/Siver brings out the worst aspects in MMA fandom from me. I’d rather see that fight headline a weird mixed kickboxing/MMA show from a small arena in Belgium or something than be part of a UFC card. I have no reason to express why. Seems like it would be better if it had some indy sleeze attached. That and Bang/Osipczak should be the FOTN contenders. Shame that there is little if any chance Ludwig’s fight will make TV. I also like Seth Petruzelli far more than his talent deserves, so I’m bummed that I don’t get to see him fight either. Maybe he’s throw sidekicks? I would like to see sidekicks.
V-Mat/Ferriera is a perfectly winnable bout for V-Mat but it could be boring but it might be boring in a way I appreciate since there would be talent shown. Again; Not likely to be on TV, so its tough to care.
So yeah, there are some fights I like but only two of them are on TV. Oh, and I think Sakara has faster hands than Rivera (who is aged and pretty slow) and I think he tags him and takes him out. No idea why it matters, but whatever.
Are you going to watch the Pacman fight?
Debating it. Its funny – I know the Pavlik fight was a joke on paper, but given how messed up Pavlik has been and how gutsy Brian Vera is. But in losing that fight, that was something I was kinda really looking forward to. And now we’ve got Brandon Rios beating some kid up and it doesn’t have the same appeal.
I might save the money and watch the fight on HBO the next week or spend it instead on getting a bunch of bootleg DVDs of Brazilian MMA shows. I can get like every Jungle Fight I’m missing and all the Fury FC shows for that much.
Side note…. For people who were debating UFC 120 results being on the ESPN ticker….. The WSOP Finals was recently taped delayed for ESPN. The ESPN website had the results posted, but in order to see them you had to click on a link from the main webpage. They did not spoil it for people. Which backs up my previous statement that if the UFC 120 was on ESPN, they wouldn’t have spoiled it.
As for predictions…. I’m not really looking forward to this card much…. But here are the predictions….
Marquardt, Sakara, Siver, Sadollah, & Reljic.
They had it on the ticker at the bottom of ESPN News too…
Marquardt, Sakara, Winner, Sadollah, Soszynski, Noke, McCray, Krauss, Vlad, Seth, Osipszac (Although I hope Bang KOs him)
NM I’m switching my pick from Vlad to Cacareco. There everyone can breath a sigh of relief…
I predict I’ll forget to watch.
I dont have a problem with Okami being the 185 champ if he can beat silva.
(I’ll worship anybody who can stuff that jerk.)
Randy is often not an immideatly gratifying watch either
But its just seeing him prevail when he shouldn’t and against the odds that makes him exciting.
I can see Okami delivering a bit of that if he turns out to be a boring but reliable winner.
(And couldn’t be much more boring then silva’s ali/inoki for 5 rounds either.)
Well it’s official we can now call Nate The Great the MW version of Kenny Florian always chocking in big fights. What a disapointing and lackluster perfomance by Nate, it’s so frustrating to see ultra talented guys like him just lose it in fights like this. The only thing worse is that he’ll go back to being a killer in his next fight but i’m over him just like Florian if you can’t put it together after this you’re done as a true title contender. Props to Okami but he’s going to have to do alot better if he even wants to be able to challenge Anderson because that won’t get the job done.
Manny Pacquiao is absolutely absurd. He literally beat Margarito’s head in; I am somewhat worrried that Antonio is going to suffer a brain hemmorhage after that beating; his corner or the ringside doctor should have stopped it a few rounds earlier, he is too tough for his own good so they are supposed to be there to protect the fighter. Marg couldn’t see out of either eye, and even when he could see he couldn’t slow Manny at all, so I have no idea why they let it go on.
At least Margarito was forced to go to the hospital to get checked out. Hopefully he’s ok. He was beaten to a pulp.
Margarito getting taken to the hospital video:
http://www.myboxingfans.com/2010/11/exclusive-antonio-margarito-rush-the-hospital/
It says on wiki that Margarito is the guy who plastered his wraps against Mosely and maybe Cotto.
Is he sweetheart other then that?
Because I probably like to see someone who would do that get mauled.
Good to see Petruzelli rockin it again!
