Will Shane McMahon really buy a piece of UFC?

By Zach Arnold | November 22, 2009

Print Friendly and PDF

Jonathan Snowden says it’s a possibility:

There was plenty of buzz about former WWE Vice President Shane McMahon. McMahon, were he to come into the company, would help the UFC secure international marketing and television deals, similar to the work he did for his father’s company. The holdup is Shane’s desire to buy in to the company. Zuffa has been loathe to add a partner in the past, but with the struggling real estate market, the time may be right for the Fertittas to add a new partner.

  1. Mark says:

Don’t blame this one on your iPhone.

  2. “How do we know what Shane McMahon did for the WWE while he was there, outside of his wrestling matches?”

Fluyid, I talked to people who worked with and for him. There is a breakdown of what he did for the company here:

    ^Good read, JS.

  4. Thanks. Getting people to talk was like pulling teeth. Butthe time I spent kept me away from the slot machines, which can’t hurt.

  5. Zack says:

LOL!! 45 is going off the deep end big time.

I grew up a fan of WWF, and I still occasionally leave WWE on for a few minutes while channel surfing. I don’t look down on pro-wrestling, in fact I have generally positive opinions about it…you are guaranteed a few good laughs from a talented wrasslin’ performer! Nonetheless if I were in the MMA biz I would be wary in the extreme of hiring anyone from that world, especially a McMahon. The public perception of integrity is too easy to lose, so why open up avenues for accusations and doubts?

A few weeks back Don King bragged about the ‘200 countries to whom his international broadcast team had sold’ a bantamweight boxing championship between relative nobodies. I would have the same waryness (actually prob less) if I heard King Jr. was being considered. As others have said, there are surely others with similarly applicable skill sets and contacts…others who won’t raise anyone’s eyebrows as regards the integrity of the product in the cage/ring.

    Seriously?

Dana White runs this company and calls fighters names, demeans women reporters and calls people gay slurs.

Yeah I think the integrity aspect was breached a long time ago.

  8. A. Taveras says:

Rp in this instance I’m referring to the integrity of outcomes and not so much the personalities involved.

  9. Dave2 says:

Is Shane’s relationship with Vince rocky after he left the WWE? Or is Vince cool with it? Shane going to the UFC would be a big f-u to his father. The UFC and WWE are in competition with each other and the UFC is winning.

  10. Safari Punch says:

“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

Maybe this whole thing is being orchestrated by the McMahon family to discredit the UFC over the long haul and hurt them from within. The UFC’s success has hurt the WWE over the years.
