War Machine Koppenhaver wins in Montreal

By Zach Arnold | February 28, 2009

Print Friendly and PDF

I note this result because this is the first mid-level MMA show in Quebec since the dust-up with UFC by the RACJ.

For anyone who went to the show or knows someone who did — how did the rules situation play out? How big was the live show attendance?

Bonus question: Surprised or not that the RACJ let War Machine main event a show in Quebec given his controversial out-of-the-cage situation?

  1. Rollo the Cat says:

Koppenhaver has a criminal conviction for assault, yes or no? If yes, is he still under court control? How did he even get into Canada exactly?

  2. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

    Rollo, good question.

Yeah, I’m surprised he’s fighting ANYWHERE.

  3. I was there and everything seemed perfectly normal. The fighters I talked to briefly said they were told that everything was normal, while the Quebec commissioners and ref brushed me off when I asked them what was up.

I watched it on TV. There was nothing unusual about the show. The original marquee match was supposed to be Cristiane Cyborg vs Marloes Coenen. When they lost that fight, the show itself lost it’s luster. GSP did commentary. He was terrible.

  5. Ivan Trembow says:

Wow! Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz was the best fight of the year so far in any sport.

Interesting how we never really gave all that much of a sh_t about war machine until he started making an ass of himself.
It really did work like he wanted it to.

And please dont take that as a condemnation of this article. Entertainment is just entertainment sometimes. Theres no need to be excessively bourgeois about it.

I wonder what he’ll say or do next?
    🙂

BTW: I think they can let you into canada temporarily if you’ve got a viable reason (IE:work related) and obtain permission first. Its up to their discretion.

I think as long as they know that you aren’t staying they don’t care.

“Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz was the best fight of the year so far in any sport.”

That was the best fight in 2 or 3 years in any combative sport.

Just watched the JMM V Diaz fight. What a fight!!! After 7 rounds I thought Diaz was well on his to winning the fight. JMM was struggling to deal with the pressure but JMM is one great fighter. The 2 knockdowns were superb. The 1st one was such a great combination of punches. What next for JMM? V Pacman I think he can win at 140lbs. Hatton at 140lbs would be to strong though. For a fight fought so much on the inside it was remarkable how the ref never had to break the two fighters up. Just so much action all the time.
