It had to help that the UWC show was covered in the WaPost on page C1 (front page sports, below the fold) on Saturday. The story profiled Iman Acchal, who has endured homelessness and other hardships since fleeing Morocco 15 years ago after a beating for refusing an arranged marriage.
It is nice to see another regional MMA company pulling in decent numbers and doing so with absolutely no star power. I doubt even half of that was paid, and if it was paid, the tickets were incredibly discounted. It has been said here and said other places millions of times, but MMA isn’t hot, UFC is hot.
As you can see, they are using UFC names who were probably there as cornermen or being paid to appear as one of the selling points of the show.
