Reports: Shogun vs. Liddell fight canceled

By Zach Arnold | March 4, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

This is what you call very bad karma. Sherdog and MMA Weekly have reports on the story.

Think Dana White wishes he had booked Brock Lesnar for the London event after all?

  1. The Lesnar thing was exactly what I thought when I first heard the news. I still think Liddell has enough star power to be able to carry an event against a guy lower than him, just like UFC 76, and especially if it’s an international event. Still, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the card fills up behind him and who they will tap to replace Shogun. Dan Henderson anybody?

  2. dana says:

cro cop would be a nice substitute.

  3. Kris says:

If this event could be like UFC 76 I’ll definitely be tuning in…

  4. Ultimo_Santa says:

They could always book Liddell vs. someone his own size (CroCop, Thiago Silva, etc.) but I’m sure Dana White would rather give him someone that would be more of a guaranteed win.

Losing twice and then squeaking by a natural Middleweight is not exactly doing Chuck’s marketability any favors.

  5. Tomer Chen says:

As far as I can tell, the only available guys that Liddell (in theory) has at least a decent chance to beat but also have some wins in the UFC currently going for them are Wilson Gouveia & Stephan Bonnar. They can also put him against Rameau Sokodjou, Jason Lambert, Dan Henderson (which would totally bury him if he ends up 0-3 in the UFC even if it’s against top guys), Luis Cane & James Lee in terms of opponents with Ls in their last fights.

  6. 3iii)0x says:

Thiago Silva is fighting Rashad Evans at UFC 84 already, and I doubt they’d give Gouveia a fight like that already. Henderson maybe…Anderson Silva jumping weight I’m sure is in thought. That would be the biggest $$$ fight for sure. Stephan Bonnar pulled out of the Hamil fight. Maybe Brandon Vera at 205? And what’s this talk of Cro-Cop, since when is he dropping weight????

    Cross your fingers for A.Silva/Liddell

  7. dana says:

Cro-Cop wieghted 220lb when he fought in the UFC. Chuck cut down from adout 216lb for his last fight. I’ve herd that Cro-Cop has been trying to bulk up, but it’s still close enough to be a catch wieght. Or Chuck could move up for a fight. I don’t think it will happen but one can dream.

They want to give chuck a fight he can win to set a title fight. It propablly won’t be Vera, Lyoto, or Cro-Cop, unfortuntly.

And yes, cross your fingers for Anderson Silva.

    “squeaking by a natural Middleweight”

Hmm, so that’s how you choose to label the once mighty king of Pride’s 205 division (who out-weighed Crocop when they fought fyi), now that Chuck beat him convincingly from start to finish. Hate much?

Besides, Chuck could probably make MW if he lost his gut.
