Kevin Iole: Frank Mir has better stamina than Nogueira
By Zach Arnold | February 1, 2008

Seriously, he made his argument:
He rated Mir 9 out of 10 stars for conditioning and rated Nogueira 8 out of 10 stars for stamina.
Dave Doyle should respond to the public criticism of this.

LOL at the ridiculous assertion being propagated by Sylvia and white supremacists/neo cons/fat boys who cheer for him that he has better cardio than Nog because Nog’s Pride fights were only 20 minutes long. I am dumbfounded by the stupidity of Kevin Iole, people who read his articles for reasons other than to laugh at his Zuffa bias/terrible writing skills/complete and utter lack of knowledge of mma, and dumbfounded by people who suggest Sylvia will knock Nog out. If Sylvia wins, it will be proof that God does not exist.
Yes, the conditioning scores published by Iole are just ridiculous, they show an incredible lack of knowledge on his part. However I’d like to say that I enjoy reading his articles, at least most of the time. I discovered him thanks to FightOpinion.com and even though there is indeed some UFC bias, I find that he sometimes brings up information that is not available to other writers/media outlets.
Hm?
Well, maybe Mir really is in top condition. I kind of doubt it…but until I see the fight I’ll reserve judgement.
I posted this on the UG as soon as I saw the articles, it’s silly stuff. Another interesting pair of ratings are Brock Lesnar’s “chin” and “kicks/knees”; one’s a 5, and the other is a 6, yet his comment for each states that they’re “unknown”, presumably because he’s never thrown a kick or a knee in a fight or even been punched. The confusing thing is that he’d rate one statistic he admittedly doesn’t know a 5, and another a 6.
Also, he said the key to Mir winning is to make it a long fight, despite rating Lesnar’s conditioning as equal to Mir’s.
Finally, I find it ridiculous that the only way statistics he uses to measure standup are “kicks/knees” and “punching power”. By this standard, many fighters with great boxing technique who don’t have much knockout power would get very low ratings despite being great standup fighters.
If Sylvia wins, it will be proof that God does not exist.
I hate to tell you, but Sylvia should be the overwhelming favorite.
If you believe that D. Capitated, I hope you have some bets down, because you’re rich if you’re right. All the bookies have Nogueira as the significant favorite.
Noguiera being the favorite in spite of possessing none of the skills needed to beat Big Dim is proof that PRIDE bias is far from dead.
Kevin Iole prints whatever Dana allows. He doesn’t have a single original thought in his head.
If Sylvia wins, it will be proof that God does not exist.
No, it proves that either
(1) Pride creates an illusion of dominance by feeding top fighters a daily dose of 3 cans to one real fight, or
(2) Proof that Pride fighters are overrated and there were rampant steroid use over there.
Lets not bring up the Spider and Rampage as evidence of Pride fighters dominating because those two earned their dominance in the US whereas the elite fighters who falter in the UFC came over at the top of their game.
In either case, we shouldn’t assume any top ranked fighters from Japan will make a big splash when they come over.
Having said that, I hope that Nogueira proves me wrong.
Sylvia by decision. Sylvia’s ground game is – and I hate to say it – very good. Plenty good enough to neutralize most of Nogueira’s straight armbars or lazy kimura attempts, in much the same way a he nerfed everything Monson through at him. Sylvia’s weakness, which must be exploited by a master, is his refusal to let his hands go, which opens him up to big punches (which Nog doesn’t throw) and takedowns (of which Nog’s are terrible).
He’s really a complete fighter, who is younger, more powerful, bigger, and in all likelihood going to beat Nogueira convincingly tonight. With that said, I’m pulling hard for Nog, who should be a $300 underdog.
Well, I give Kevin Iole a 10/10 stars for being an ass-kisser, and a 10/10 for being a jackass.
So in my books, he’s got a perfect score! Congrats, Kevin ‘Huddle 45’ Iole!
But as far as the betting line, I don’t know…if Sylvia wins, it will very likely be a decision. a very, very boring decision. He has little-no KO power (and Nog has never been Koed) and zero submissions.
Win or lose, Sylvia is still the MMA equivalent of Extra Strength NyQuil.
I hope Kevin Iole gets fired for his crappy “analysis”, guy has no clue.
Hopefully, he’ll be part of recently announced Yahoo layoffs
“(2) Proof that Pride fighters are overrated and there were rampant steroid use over there.”
Based on the way testing is done in the US there’s really no difference in how much rampant performance enhancing drug use occurred.
But it’s a nice attempt to spew your biased opinions.
“If you believe that D. Capitated, I hope you have some bets down, because you’re rich if you’re right. All the bookies have Nogueira as the significant favorite.”
Actually, I do happen to agree D. Capitated, and I also happen to have $100 on Sylvia at +170. I only bet when the big favorite (imo) is a decent underdog according to the bookies.
Tim’s style is just too much for Nog. I think he has the advantage standing, and I don’t think Nog’s TDs are good enough to take it the ground.
Even if he gets it to the ground, Nog isn’t nearly as dangerous as I hear everone say he is. Nog is still living off a reputation made 4-5 years ago. In the past few years, he’s only had 2 submission victories in 10 fights, and those submissions were against low-quality opponents (Tamura and Zulu). I think Karo “Unanimous decision” Parisian has about the same number of submissions victories in that time period. Nog will have a hell of a time trying to submit Sylvia.
Kevin Iole gets a paycheck from Zuffa every month…or one of the Fertitta’s shell companies like Zyen…
