New RSS feeds added

Check both the news side (left) and audio corner (right) for updated feeds.

Both Tagg Radio (here) and Fight Network Radio (here) have broken RSS feeds, so I can’t add them onto the site until they fix their feeds. (Podomatic also has XML feeds that do not provide individual links to each separate audio show, so I don’t know a solution around that problem.)

I tried to add RSS feeds for other promotions outside of UFC and I can’t find any RSS feeds for league-specific news (the IFL web site has no RSS feed directly available). If you can find promotion-specific RSS feeds, let me know.

Google has news licenses for both Canadian Press and Associated Press articles. However, there are no archive sites for either of the news wires on Google. However, if someone can figure out a way to make an RSS feed or all MMA stories by Canadian Press, I will gladly integrate that feed onto the site.

I couldn’t find an RSS feed for MMA Ring Report.

Now this is quite the site recommendation.

Question for WordPress users out there: I am currently using Akismet, along with Custom anti-spam and another plug-in to combat spam trackbacks and links on the site. I had to give up on Bad Behavior because it was blocking several users from posting comments (and, true story, managed to even block me out of my own site). If anyone has suggestions for alternatives to Bad Behavior that will combat the spam but not block users, please post a comment. Thanks.

  1. I only use Akismet and have very little problems with spam. It adapts so once I categorize a trackback as spam a few times it learns fairly well. Another thing to try would be blocking specific domains you know to be spam but what you have already should do the trick but if you’re still having problems send me an email and I can look into some alternatives.

Also, if you’re looking to add another RSS feed we would love to be included on here as well.

Without Bad Behavior (paired with Akismet), we get swamped with hundreds of spam messages and links a day.

I used to use Spam Karma but it blocked a ton of readers from the site.

I like the concept of using OpenID – it’s a nice standard, already getting decent uptake (if you have any sort of LiveJournal or AOL account you have an OpenID), reusable in a lot of places and just plain makes sense.

The quicker people adopt it, the better for everyone.

Exactly the same problem here Zach. As my traffic went up Akismet couldn’t cope without using Bad Behavior. I had a couple of complaints but it’s better than a couple of thousand spam messages.

This is the best I could do for an IFL feed (not perfect):
