what a moron rampage sounds like with those statements

  2. RT says:

Sounds like Rampage being Rampage. When you grow up poor in Memphis TN you might have some issues with the discrepancies between the way people are treated by law enforcement etc. This whole thing is being blown way out of proportion.

  3. David says:

TMZ is a waste of time, or I am just jealous that a fellow Jew made a ridiculous amount of money..

  4. That sounds exactly like something Rampage would say anyways. It’s being blown completely out of proportion if this is becoming a story. Listen to Rampage’s PRIDE soundbites, most of them are along the lines of black and white. They are hilarious and we as the audience know they are jokes.

Rampage being drunk doesn’t help the fact, but it’s Rampage being Rampage.

  5. David M says:

I liked the mma-opinion article. Dana White has done an awful job of marketing Rampage, either because Quinton beat Dana’s hero Chuck or because Rampage is black or because Rampage knows he should be getting paid more than he is, as the champion in the sport’s most important division.

Regardless, it is pathetic that Dana is willing to bury the guy who should be his biggest star, just because of a personal vendetta..

  6. Zeppelin says:

Because an ambulance and EMTs can magically make a severed femoral artery all better with a magic bandaid. Black or white, you’re in serious trouble moments after a major artery is severed.

  7. RT says:

Zep you figure Rampage knew that dude was shot in an artery? or just maybe He’s out partying talkin to some clown who just told Him about a black dude who died from being shot in the leg? Call me crazy but I think Rampage probably had know idea about that artery let alone how fast it would blead out.

  8. Zeppelin says:

That may be, but man, its pretty classless to put blame on the medical personel that probably tried their damnest to save the man’s life. Call me crazy, but I’ve never seen an ambulance just lazily cruise to a location with the EMTs sauntering over with donuts. I’m just saying…

  9. Kev says:

Why do people interpret things take things in the worst possible way? “Act white” doesn’t mean act like a white person, it meant don’t act like a stereotypical ignorant black person. How do I know this? Listen to his tone…it wasn’t sarcastic, he was using a cautioning voice, like he was lecturing his own kind to behave right.

And then there’s MMA Opinion. Yeah, lets take 15 words that sounds the worst without any context and then use it as a kludgel. Good Job MMA Opinion, you’ve stooped to the level of TMZ, a tabloid sensationalist.

Rampage knew nothing about Taylor, he only knew what he was told by the interviewer, and the interviewer told him not that he got shot in an artery, but in the leg. As in, usually-a-survivable-flesh-wound shot in the leg. His reaction to the incident as presented to him is reasonable.

  10. D. Capitated says:

Hahahahaha, “Rampage sounds ignorant for those statements”. Please. He’s telling the fucking truth. Everyone knows 911 response times in the inner city are horrible. People who don’t have never lived there or known people from it. That’s like showing outrage at the idea that black people get beat up by cops for no reason in the ‘hood or that people of color are pulled over without cause and hassled.

  11. D.’s right on this. It’s just a factual statement.

I’m not really sure why TMZ wanted his opinion on the subject in any case. The entire story’s been a simmering pot of controversy for everyone who chooses to express an opinion on it already, so I have to assume they were just attempting to stir the pot further.

  12. Johnny P. says:

I’d just like to point out that that was Brandt at MMAOpinion, correctly pointed out by Zach, and not John Philapavage at MMAOpinion. He’s busy with completely different opinions entirely 🙂

  13. Ultimo Santa says:

I can’t wait for a white person to say something about blacks, because I’m sure everyone will just say “oh well, no big deal” and let it slide.

    Right? 😉

Either way, if a comment doesn’t have malice behind it towards a specific person, or is done in a joking manner (regardless of whether it was in good taste) I think everyone should just chalk it up as a funny sound bite and leave it alone.

Rampage didn’t even know who the player was, or what happened. He just immediately assumed that someone immediately called the hospital, and that no one came because the dying person was black.

Is that racist? Not really…incredibly ignorant, and somewhat hilarious, but not necessarily racist.

He used it to say something everyone knows. The funny part is seeing the reaction of people who don’t know its true. Kinda like when someone mentions Rodney King anywhere on the internet and invariably, there’s 2-3 people who defend the cops beating the crap out of him.

  15. Jim Allcorn says:

I can’t believe the controversial play this is getting!

One would think Rampage called everyone of a lighter pigmentation a no good cracker or something … Didn’t happen that way folks.

For cryin’ out loud, the man was just minding his own business, hangin’ at the club when the TMZ camera dude approached him with the news. And, if I’m not mistaken, said dude was a brother who informed Jackson of the news about Taylor. So, the conversation was two black men conversing in the way that they do. Rampage didn’t know who the player was or what the circumstances were surrounding his death. Just what the TMZ dude told him & with that limited information, Jackson made his comments.

Which, like all satirical commentary, had a strong element of truth to it. But, Rampage being Rampage, he was demonstrating his usual dry sense of humor. Being tongue in cheek.

This was clearly not someone bringing up the “race card”.

  16. cyphron says:

I thoguht it was funny as hell. If that came out of a mouth of stand up comedian, no body would be bothered by it.

Rampage is a clown. I don’t think anything coming from here shoudl be construed as anything other than a joke.

  17. Kev says:

Let me bash Brandt one more time:

It might as well have been at the latest Nation of Islam meeting.

How out of touch is this guy?

  18. The Gaijin says:

“He’s telling the fucking truth. Everyone knows 911 response times in the inner city are horrible. People who don’t have never lived there or known people from it. Now I could be wrong here…but I’m thinking a guy making millions of dollars as a professional football player isn’t too likely to be living in the “inner city” anymore. Maybe he’s still sticking to his roots, but I gotta think the guy would be living in a pretty nice neighbourhood these days….

  19. Gaijin,

Actually, this guy was living in the hood. That’s been one of the key issues. A lot of sports radio types immediate came out and said that this guy was responsible for his own death since a knife was left in the house on the bed a week before, and he opted to defend his family not by getting out of the hood or hiring some bodyguards, but by BUYING A MACHETE.

    Yeah, seriously.

Although, honestly, when you look at the census stats, Palmetto Bay doesn’t look like the hood.

I have no fucking idea what I’m talking about, I listen to sports talk radio.

  20. The Gaijin says:

Yeah I actually read that about the previous robbery/break-in and knife found on his bed. Which I thought was pretty ridiculous that he didn’t have something done…but I wasn’t too sure whether he was still in the hood or not.

Dumb, dumb “macho” move on his part to not seek help when he had been threatened like that!

  21. D. Capitated says:

Rampage was being sarcastic, but sarcasm includes truth. The truth is cops don’t answer to minority neighborhoods as fast as white neighborhoods. I remember looking up stuff this morning and there was an item from a Chicago news station that essentially proved that fewer police vehicles were sent through low income/minority neighborhoods within city limits and that response times were significantly higher, with an comparatively enormous number of calls police didn’t respond to for *hours* when compared to similarly populated areas with majority caucasian populations..

  22. cyphron says:

    D. Capitated,

I knew that much from the movie American Gangster.

  23. Ultimo_Santa says:

Being a Canadian, I’m not as familiar with ghettos, gun fights, and people getting denied medical treatment based on their skin color.

I think it has something to do with this “American Dream” we keep hearing about?

    🙂

I’m just kidding, Yanks. I love the US…I just wouldn’t live in 95% of your cities in fear of being shot to death.

  24. The Gaijin says:

Actually…funny thing about all this conspiracy or whatever about police not responding to 911 calls in the ghetto etc. is that Taylor’s father is actually a “higher up” (I’m not sure exactly what his rank is) on the police force in Miami.

So I’d have a real hard time believing the son of a high ranking cop who calls 911 is going to be given a ho-hum emergency response.

  25. Ultimo, fine with me, I wouldn’t live in 95% of American cities.

Most of them are terrible shitholes with nothing to recommend them.

The only Canadian city I have any interest in is Montreal, though, so it’s not exactly a solely homegrown problem. Toronto is getting more and more like Chicago mixed with the worst parts of Miami every time I visit.
