Tuesday highlights: Dynamite card shaping up
By Zach Arnold | May 7, 2007

As first reported on Boxing Talk, Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports is reporting that Diego Corrales died Monday night in a motorcycle accident. Dan Rafael at ESPN is also reporting on the story. Gary Shaw has now confirmed the story to the Associated Press.
K-1 6/2 LA Coliseum rumored card line-up. K-1’s web site confirms the match-ups. Martin Kampmann will not fight Rich Franklin on June 16th in Ireland.
If someone can find a podcast of Andrew Siciliano’s show from Monday night on Fox Sports Radio, please let me know. (FSR is not exactly pod-friendly unlike ESPN Radio). There’s a reason I’m interested in finding audio from Siciliano’s show.
Here’s how Boxing Scene readers reacted to my column on the boxing/MMA situation. Plus, reaction at Sherdog.

Diego Corrales died two years TO THE DAY of his first fight with Corrales. That’s really weird.
He will definitely be missed. A true warrior if there ever was one in combat sports.
RIP Diego
Bad news about Corrales. The 1st fight v Jose Luis Castillo was a classic, one of the greatest of all time. Never forget Corrales being knocked down twice in the 10th looking totally beaten and then rallied to to KO Castillo. Legendry!!!
Zach — great boxingscene article. Even as someone who has followed everything here on the site and across the media in the leadup to this weekend’s UFC media bonanza/boxing match, I felt like I learned a lot. Fantastic explanation of the run-up and lasting impact of the fight on MMA.
I appreciate the comments. Send me an e-mail any time and we can discuss the UFC/boxing topic further.
Just thought I’d point out a story that seems to have been passed over by many people. I’d heard about this before when MFC did it, and now another organization is doing the same thing. I’d love to hear what you guys think about it.
Sad to hear that Diego Corrales died as he did give it his all in virtually every fight I’ve seen of his. May have had a bit of a crazy style (boring in chin first), especially given his weak chin, but it made for fireworks (for the most part). RIP.
Brad Pickett confirmed his fight at K-1 to me in a personal interview that we will be releasing tomorrow in MMA Smackdown…
Just thought y’all would like to know.
Man I looked at the card breakdown on MMAweekly, they have som e of the better fighters, fighting on the unaired opened part of the card. Tokoro, JZ, Vasquez…kinda dumb IMO.
I agree with JOSH. Football Players fighting comedians just doesn’t do it for the US.
The only fights I’m looking forward to on the main card so far is Sefo/Eastman and Lesnar/Choi.
Where the hell is Shibata?
Franklin vs. Okami as the main event for UFC 73 has been confirmed by Franklin. A very tough fight for him. The winner of this fight will almost certainly fight for the title. So right now the UFC has their Top 4 Middleweights stacked up against each other within the span of 3 weeks.
I thought it was 72?
72… Stupid typo….
Actually on paper, it is a much better fight in terms of rankings. It has a serious chance of being boring.

Just thought this link was interesting. Never seen so many upcoming events like that on the website. 5 events in less then 45 days. 6 if you consider the WEC. And who knows if a Pride show will be during this time frame.
Supposidly they might have a PRIDE show in LA on June 30th…but I kinda doubt it.
I’d love to see them use a PRIDE guy in there to replace Kampmann instead of allowing Okami a fight or two to get ready to face someone near the top.
They basically created the same situation they had with Kampmann – an undersized MW that has been on a streak that is tailored for Franklin to beat and look good, while being enough of a threat to make it worthwhile.
Why not use Misaki, Kang, Filho, Lombard, Busta or someone in the stable of MW’s at their disposal instead of using Okami already. Small quibble as I guess the PRIDE sale is not finalized and this fight is still pretty solid.
Here’s hoping the “not to air” portion of DynamiteUSA streams on ProElite.com.
Gaijin – I think I have a solution to help you overcome the dreaded spam filters. E-mail me and I’ll tell you about it.
Fightlinker – in regards to your posting about Martell and the situation in Halifax, Martell is doing nothing different than what used to happen in the territorial days of pro-wrestling pre-McMahon Jr. In the early 80s, you would have heard the term ‘outlaw promotion’ for sure used for someone like KOTC running in ECC-established ground. Hell, look at Florida – Eddie Graham used to send Hiro Matsuda to ‘outlaw shows’ and Matsuda took care of business big time.
Supposedly there is some breaking news from Japan on Pride. Anyone know anything?
