Elite XC 2/10 Southaven, MS

This is the open post for everyone who is watching tonight’s event. ProElite.com will be airing their undercard fights (starting at 7 PM EST) on their web site, but the catch is that you have to sign up for an account first. The main card will air on Showtime in America and The Fight Network in Canada. The Miami Herald previews the event.
Any and all thoughts on the fights and fallout from the event goes here.

I just signed up. It’s free and takes only a minute or so. I’d recommend doing it now in case the site gets bogged down around 7pm.
It’s pretty decent so far, the quality of the stream is nice, and the production values at the event itself aren’t half bad. I can’t get any sound, unfortunately.
I been telling heads for years. Big Perm is the truth.

Guy Mezger is almost unrecognizable…I had no idea who he was until the graphic popped up.
Well, I got the sound to finally work by opening the stream url in VLC media player. The commentary is pretty decent, and I hear that Mario Lopez had a spat and left the building.
Mezger’s interviewing skills are straight bunk.
This shit is too hilarious.

In the build up to the Shackleford vs. Berto match, Guy mentioned that he knows Berto’s daddy from Japan and the “worked shoot” feds over there.
Mario Lopez is doing the Todd Pettengill pre-PPV schtick, and it’s just a TAD too much. Hopefully that’ll slow down on the main card.
Mezger is not made out for commentary at all. “You know…” Then again, I won’t bash a freaking pre-show announce team, and at least they know their stuff.
Plenty of FU’s to UFC, from interviewing Mayhem and Vera to being the only other promotion on the earth to use the blow horn.
SOLID crowd, and they’re appreciative too.
Referees are allowing actual ground fighting here, unlike UFC’s new policy, so thumbs up for that.
Production and appearance is definitely better than WFA’s show last July.
That is true. I’m using my PC. It recommends explorer 6 or 7. Is it working in firefox? I couldn’t get it going in Safari. They need to get on that. Download flip4mac.com … try to open the url in windows media player.
I hope they use better refs on the PPV or at least in the future. The ref is a big part of the “show”… the Shackleford/Berto match ending was a bit uneventful… the ref didn’t visually end the fight by waving his arms or anything… I didn’t know right away if he was stepping in to end it or stand them back up.
Disregard my advice. Won’t work in this case. But grab flip4mac anyway.
I’m on PC and usually use Opera, but since I only entered the site at 6:50 and saw the IE thing right away, so I just switched browser immediately. At least the video overlays fine to TV, which is often NOT the case with imbedded video.

Yeah, Royal. I tried what I recommended and it doesn’t work. It’s embedded video. You should definitely check out the live show at 10. They’re doing a great job with production. I was going to flip back and forth between this show and Collazo/Mosley on HBO and Elite XC. But now I think I’ll catch Collazo/Mosley on demand.
The reason Shaw wants guys like Noons doing both MMA and boxing is because, at least in the case of Noons, he has a dual-sport contract with Shaw as his promoter/agent.

Good gawd, you call that a TREND? Shaw’s statement was obviously not seriously meant, and Noons is indeed a boxer. Meanwhile the entire show has been spent praising ALL bits and pieces of MMA. Duh.

Are they allowing kicks and knees to the head of a downed oppoenent. I’ve seen that about 4 times in the highlight package right now.

It definitely was. But why show it if those techniques will not be allowed? Also Josh Gross said “eye, pokes, biting and groin strikes are the only illegal moves”. Is this Shamrock/Gracie fight happening back in 1997 like it should have.
I’m not sure how I compare to others, but right now, I’m watching UFC Ultimate Knockouts on Spike. I was having fun watching Elite on the web and was still in the mood for some MMA. Since I don’t have Showtime, and don’t care to order it just to watch Elite, I just flipped over to UFC. Being that it is old UFC footage, my thirst for MMA has quickly dried up.
In my opinion, Elite should have either kept the web feed going through the Showtime show (even for a small fee) or worked with Showtime to have a free preview weekend to introduce their product. Or… put it on a regular cable channel OR… put it on as a cheap PPV. I’d rather pay $9.99 to see Elite then subscribe to Showtime just to catch their debut show.
I just can’t bring myself to purchasing Showtime. I don’t mind HBO. I got hooked on it in college, and love their programing. But Showtime has always felt like wasted money to me. Just not worth it. Even their boxing never did it for me in the past.
Plus, the fact that Showtime is available in such few homes (15 million), this might not have any impact on the world of MMA. Like I have said before, most people that I know have Showtime, also have all of the other premium channels and barely watch it. There isn’t that customer loyalty like there is for HBO.
With that said, I will always enjoy watching free MMA streamed online. I will never pass it up. However, I would only order Showtime if it was the only MMA available on all of TV.
