I agree 100% w/ the elbows. UFC is being ruined by fighters trying to win fights due to blood loss stoppage and laying on opponents hoping for a a victory. Also problematic are techniques like Matt Hamill rubbing the point caused by the bend in his glove into the eye of an opponent.
Part of the problem is that UFC is booking a bunch of midwestern wrestlers to save money. Part of the problem is refs don’t stand fighters up and the judges think laying on an opponent is a sign of dominace and I think part of it is that there is no repurcussion (ie loss of pay) for fighting in such a cowardly fashion. UFC is not going to keep its new fans if they fill PPVs with fights such as Sherk/Florian, Marrero/Kongo, Fitch/Hironoko and the Hamill fight. All of those fights were on PPV or UFN last week. All went to decision, none of those fights were in any danger of having a finish.
I’ve also seen people complain about the use of knees. Hmmm..no knees, no elbows. Think we got a sport like that already, called Karate
Knees and kicks to the head of a downed opponent should be reinstated in my opinion. I know it’s brutality can turn off some people. But it ends fights. This is after all fighting. Horn is right, fighters know what they’re getting into. UFC is turning into freestyle wrestling with punches. That is not where they want to go.
I agree that knees and kicks should be allowed over elbows. To the casual public a pool of blood is far worse looking than someone getting booted in the head.
10,000 tickets, if true, is pretty damn good for Real Deal, better than I thought they would do.
I agree with roadblock regarding all the wrestlers, they don’t like to stand and they refuse to learn submissions unlike Josh barnett.
I’d like to see elbows in the standing position only. It takes more skill than the improvised cross face we see so much of which leads to more orbital injuries to grounded fighters.
Stomping on the ground should remain illegal for the same reasons, not much skill involved and a high risk of serious injury.
Stomping is like school in the summer time….
elbows and knees shouldn’t even be discussed in the same breath.
kneeing franklin in the face like silva did required pinpoint accuracy and skill.
same can’t be said for aiming your pointy nerd elbows at somebody’s head while they are in your guard. (no offence to florian.)
