Kimo pulled off of the WFA PPV

By Zach Arnold | July 20, 2006

Print Friendly and PDF

By Zach Arnold

The WFA sent out a press release, stating that the California State Athletic Commission has notified them that Kimo failed a drug test (reportedly tested positive for Stanozolol).

This was easily the last big-money fight in Kimo’s MMA career, and now it is finished. Fight Report has more details.

Update: Sherdog reports that the WFA is scrambling to find an opponent for Mr. Rutten. This is completely unfair to Bas. They should forget about the idea of an MMA fight and come up with something else for him to do — such as an exhibition match (they have Bill Goldberg, why not Goldberg vs. Rutten) or even a pro-wrestling match (he did face Yuji Nagata and Koji Kanemoto in New Japan a few years ago).

Update II: Bas Rutten’s new opponent will be Ruben Villareal, whose last fight was in May against Don Frye.

    What an absolute frickin tool.

  2. Jeff says:

lol @ a pro wrestling match. I’m sure the fans would love that. It would also help the WFA’s credibility tremendously to have a pro wrasslin match on their first card.

You really have your fingers on the pulse of the MMA scene in America.

  3. Mr1000Cent says:

So, what’s Kimbo Slice doing? You laugh, but Kimbo vs. Rutten in a MMA rules bout would be more interesting then Rutten vs. Goldberg in a pro wrestling match. But now, if we are talking Goldberg vs. Rutten MMA rules, that’s a whole different story.

No, I’m trying to put myself in the shoes of the promoter. The best call would be for Rutten not to fight at all. Having him prepare for a new opponent in under 24 hours is ridiculous.

Contrary to your belief, I think if you do an exhibition match (and Bas would be the right guy to do it) it would work out fine.

This is a bad situation for everyone involved, and unlike the hardcore MMA fans online who believe that pro-wrestling is it’s evil relative, it’s not a horrible alternative given the options.

  5. Mr1000Cent says:

Yeah, it’s a funny contradiction between wrestling and MMA, especially when the same people that complain about pro wrestling are the same people that accept a weapons demo on a point fighting show. I guess the average Joe Six-pack hates being lied to, or hates thinking he’s being lied to with predetermined endings.

But then again, why do only hardcore boxing and MMA fans complain about promoters hiring “tomato cans” and seeing matches that they are easily seeing someone get “sandbagged”? It puts the idea of a “worked” match in perspective.

  6. Chuck says:

So they got Warpath to fight Rutten? He’s a decent, tough fighter. Causes trouble for better fighters. But Bas should win though. Not easily.
