Three accused yakuza members released

A new twist to the case. According to the Tokushima Shimbun (newspaper), the district attorney/prosecutor in Yokohama have released the three men accused of being members of Yamaguchi-gumi in connection to the criminal complaint filed in 2004 by promoter Seiya Kawamata. The reason for the release of the three men is publicly uncertain (i.e. lack of evidence, a deal being brokered, etc.) It’s important to note that the public prosecutor made the decision for the release and not the police themselves.
Update: Asahi Shimbun has comments from the deputy public prosecutor in Yokohama. The deputy states that all three men arrested denied the charges of extortion made by Seiya Kawamata, and there is not enough evidence gathered to prosecute at the moment.
