More on MMA legislation in California
By Zach Arnold | December 29, 2005

One day after a major Los Angeles Times article on MMA becoming legal in California, the Los Angeles Daily News has an article in their Thursday paper written by Harrison Sheppard. Sheppard’s report starts out with this interesting news item:
California State Athletic Commission director Armando Garcia said mixed martial arts events technically became legal as of Wednesday, but the commission won’t start accepting applications until around Jan. 9 and he expects the first events to be held sometime after March 1.
While the LA Times article focused more on the process of getting MMA legalized in California, the Daily News article focuses on the high-level of business interest for MMA events in 2006 in the state. And it’s very, very big.

This is huge for MMA. Paydays for MMA fighters are going to be on the rise due to legalization in CA. 2006 is going to be great. Hopefully we will see a number of WEC level promotions spring up.
Hopefully, MMA organizations will start holding cards in Pennsylvania, where I live. Maybe at the Wilkes-Barre Wachovia Arena? 😉
