The controversial UFC demands to fighters about the EA MMA video game
I’ve received messages from contemporaries asking me why I didn’t comment on this story like I have over the sponsorship ‘tax’ story. Simply put, I was interviewed by a couple of media outlets and I gave them my thoughts on the matter for their articles.
There is one article I would like you to read relating to EA Sports, in which the author lays out a scenario that I actually agree with that could end up creating a unique situation for UFC.
Report: Mark Cuban now a Zuffa bondholder
We know the history of the Fertitta family as far as relations with bondholders and Station Casinos goes. Nevertheless, MMA Payout is reporting that Cuban is now a bondholder for UFC (buying some of their debt) and will have first access to the company’s financial reports. Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta must be thrilled by this news.

I’m a Jon Fitch fan, but he could patch the holes in his game for the next 5 years and still probably never beat GSP. I hope that Fitch doesn’t fall into the role of eternal gatekeeper, a la Zuul, but I suppose there are worse positions.
I hadn’t heard about the Bonnar/Coleman match and I’m not sure what to feel about that one. I think that the risk of Coleman possibly, though improbably, winning far outweighs any benefits of feeding Bonnar a win to keep him in the UFC.
Akiyama in the UFC is really interesting to me. I’m always up for more Judo in MMA and as long as he doesn’t go and grease himself up with fry batter or anything he might actually do well. I have a feeling there will be a group of Japanese fans who will show up to UFC 100 just to boo him though.

EA doesn’t even have to go as far as buying THQ.
THQ’s WWE license ends at the end of this year and their UFC license ends next year. EA for a while have been rumoured to be the frontrunner for those licenses when they expire.
The UFC/THQ deal expires in late 2011, at which point EA Sports would likely be one of the highest bidders for the UFC license. That is logically the only reason that EA didn’t immediately sue the UFC when they got wind of the UFC’s restraint of trade practices: Because they want to get in bed with the UFC when the license comes up for bidding.

GSP is immune to wrestlers so Fitch could fight him 50 times and not win.
Bonnar should just retire on the spot if he were to lose to Coleman. I hope for his sake that doesn’t happen. I think either way this fight is going to be a dud.
