Sengoku starts building up card for their 1/4 Saitama Super Arena event

By Zach Arnold | November 2, 2008

Sports Navigator: Expect Takanori Gomi vs. Satoru Kitaoka for Sengoku’s 1/4 Saitama Super Arena event

K-1: World MAX finals event (11/3) will air on a delay on Tokyo Broadcasting System from 25:00 ~ 28:00 (1-4 AM JST).

Boston Herald: UFC fighters - Nix on the fix

“Basically, we get three bonuses on fight night,” Kenny Florian said. “You get one bonus for Knockout of the Night, a bonus for Submission of the Night and a bonus for Fight of the Night. At no point whatsoever do you hear (UFC president Dana White) or any of the UFC brass tell you, ’Listen, we want you to stand up,’ or ’We want you to take him down and submit him.’ They never have any input as far as game planning at all.”

    Zach,

Why no 12/31 card? Is Sengoku just not popular enough?

  2. November 2nd, 2008 at 8:02 pm Zach Arnold Says:

Their version of the 12/31 card is happening on 1/4. 1/4 used to be New Japan’s top day at the Tokyo Dome.

Any word on Kimbo fighting NYE in Japan?

I really think he could be successful out there. They would love a big scary black guy like him.

Uh oh…Kimbo Slice vs. Bob Sapp coming up… ;)

Kimbo Slice’s wage demands are too big for Sengoku. I know his $500k purse versus Petruzelli was inflated because he was paid compensation for taking that fight on such short notice but he still made $175k versus Tank Abbott on Showtime. He probably made somewhere in between $175k and $500k against James Thompson on CBS.

Gomi gets paid 20 million Yen last I heard (almost $200k American) a fight and Yoshida for sure gets more than that but Kimbo Slice isn’t a name in Japan like those two. I think it’s more likely he’ll be fighting for DREAM (if they still manage to exist after K-1 Dynamite).

  8. November 3rd, 2008 at 11:43 am The Gaijin Says:

Kang gets scooped up by the UFC following his impressive stoppage over Marvin.

I guess we’ll see exactly where Kang shakes out in the grand scheme of the MW’s and more interestingly, it might give us a better indication of the actual objective level of talent of guys like Mouassi, Akiyama and Misaki.

  9. November 3rd, 2008 at 12:01 pm 45 Huddle Says:

Kang was beating up on Mousasi before he got caught in a submission. With that said, I think Mousasi is a bad match-up for him anyways.

I think Kang looks average in the UFC. That is my prediction.

  10. November 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm The Gaijin Says:

I think “average” is a bit of an under-sell.

I think he has the ability in theory(not necessarily that he actually will in practice) to hang with most of the guys in the upper tier. So if by “average” you mean, “he’ll be competitive with the top dogs and get dusted by Silva”, then I agree.

As I saw mentioned elsewhere, they’re well positioned to start making in-roads for a South Korean show with a signing like this. Now bring in Akiyama!

    Didnt this already happen?

    What is this event exactly?
