Satoshi Ishii: Not aiming for 2012 London Olympic games

By Zach Arnold | October 24, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

Well, there’s still some hope for K-1 and Sengoku to snag the judoka for their big NYE events coming up (K-1 12/31 Saitama Super Arena & Sengoku 1/4 Saitama Super Arena). Maybe. At an imperial garden party today in Akasaka, Tokyo, the 100 kg Beijing gold medalist from Kokushikan University indicated that he wasn’t aiming to participate in the next Olympic games.

  1. Pontus says:

There’s a thread on the UG on this. An australian wrestler apperently goes to the same university as Ishi and trains wrestling and mma with him.

Ishi told him he was going state side after he was finished with his degree in march because of the lack of HWs in Japan. He was talking about going to Seattle (Matt Hume maybe?).

  2. Haulport says:

this kid’s interest in MMA is great. It could really be THE THING to get the Japanese scene back and running. Imagine if he can take a punch? The Japanese love their guys to fight HW’s so he’s a HW and won’t have to get murdered every time he fights a big guy (like Saku and Yoshida).

  3. Bryan says:

Doesn’t Barnett have a gym based out of Seattle? And only comes down to CSW for his fights? I thought I read that.

  4. joeblow says:

I really hope he or someone else can revive japanese mma. I would love to see dream and sengoku have a war that somehow included soccer kicks.
