Keith Kizer of the NSAC confirms Sam Caplan’s reported source on Elite XC stand-up scandal

Sam Caplan wrote the following on Five Ounces of Pain a couple of days ago:

Petruzelli’s comments on 104.1 FM in Orlando that he had financial incentive not to take Slice to the ground that led to such a public outcry that officials in Florida launched an investigation into the incident were just the tip of the iceberg, as there also appeared to be more to the story. For instance, separate sources informed Five Ounces of Pain last week that there was also a possibility that a deal had been struck preventing Petruzelli from using “Thai-style kicks on Slice, since he had not prepared for them leading up to the fight.”

Combine this report with the comments T. Jay Thompson made to MMA Weekly last Tuesday:

“I don’t have a smoking gun, (but) I’ve been around long enough, I’ve talked to enough people that were there, I won’t name names of executives in the company that I know—Seth was paid to stand up. I’m confident of that. If the commission wants to talk to me, I’ll tell them what I know.”

On Thursday, the Florida DBPR ‘cleared’ Elite XC of any wrong-doing in the stand-up scandal involving Kimbo Slice and Seth Petruzelli. Unfortunately for the DBPR, someone powerful in the fight industry has managed to back up what Sam Caplan claimed he was told by a source regarding the issue of ‘no Muay Thai kicks’ in the Kimbo/Petruzelli fight.

Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission told MMA Weekly the following:

“Someone affiliated with ProElite told me that the fighter or his camp said that he had not been training to fight a Muay Thai specialist and thus he had not trained to defend Muay Thai-style kicks, so that he would agree to fight the proposed opponent if the opponent agreed not to use any such kicks, and that information was told to that opponent.”

Eventually, more parties involved in Elite XC will start talking now that the company is out of business. The more talking that occurs, the more embarrassing it will likely end up being for the Florida DBPR. Perhaps they don’t care. Maybe.

Looks like this isn’t going to go away any time soon regardless of Florida’s poor investigation being closed.

You know, I am not sure how involved Bas was in the background. I really have not heard any commentary from him regarding this matter, one way or the other.

It led me to think that, as fanatical as Jason Delucia is that he says Bas is hypocritical when it came to steroid usage, that Jason, may be onto something.

    Anyone’s thoughts/comments?

  3. Grape Knee High says:

Very likely that “someone affiliated with ProElite” was Sam Caplan himself.

  4. Ivan Trembow says:

No, during the NSAC meeting it was worded as a ProElite employee, not a former ProElite employee.

  5. Ivan Trembow says:

According to Petruzelli’s current story (his fourth or fifth one to date), the EliteXC promoters simply told him before the fight to “do his best,” which just happens to be the phrase that was repeated over and over again by NSAC haed Keith Kizer when he was asked about appropriate conduct in MMA fights. Wow, what are the odds of that?

Seriously, the Florida State Athletic Commission has shown itself to be an absolute fraud and a joke. If there is ever anything else that they are tasked with investigating, we should all assume from the get-go that their primary concern is to cover their own asses, not to actually investigate anything.

It’s particularly pathetic that the comission never bothered to talk to T.J. Thompson, who could have told them exactly who had said exactly what to him about the fight not going to the ground.

Also, how is it that the only question they asked Keith Kizer was, “Have you had any problems on ProElite-promoted shows in the past?” given that ProElite never held any events in Nevada.

And you mean to tell me that Kizer was able to get the information out of a ProElite employee two weeks ago about the ban on “Muay Thai-style kicks” when he wasn’t even the one whose job was to do a formal investigation, and yet the people who did have the job of doing a formal investigation couldn’t get anyone to say anything to them about it?

  6. jdavis says:

You could tell they were clueless when they actually contacted Tank Abbott about this to use as evidence.

  7. OrlandoJoe says:

I heard the comments live that Seth made on Real Radio 104.1 and it sounded to me like he was hinting to something that still hasn’t fully seen the light of day. Maybe the should ask the Monsters (Russ would be a good start) what was said off-air.
