I know Chuck Liddell is headlining UFC 88, but…

590,000 PPV buys for this weekend’s show? If that is the case for a show that has received little or no media coverage, then UFC is truly unstoppable and everyone else in the business should get out now and cut their losses.

The predictor thing is a work in progress to be sure, Zach. We went back and did the data for the past year and a half and it gave us between 8 and 10% margin of error. Not the best but it was scarily accurate at times. My gut tells me it will be closer to the 475k (500 maybe) figure mentioned in my UFC 88 preview. tbh, I was surprised at the strong number the Countdown show did.

  2. Jeremy says:

The casual fans can’t get enough of the Iceman I guess. It blows my mind that the countdown to UFC 88 drew 701,000 viewers. Just wow.

  3. The Citizen says:

UFC, striking while the iron is hot. Dana White’s video blog makes me want to barf.

  4. Mike Rome says:

The online hype is all Randy Couture, but Chuck Liddell is still a huge mainstream draw, as evidenced by the countdown rating. Rashad has also surprised headlining before.

Chuck was on sportscenter today too, I think this one will do 500-550, which is still a great number. 590 seems very high.

  5. IceMuncher says:

I thought we all knew Zuffa was unstoppable back when UFC 72: Disaster still got 200k buys, or when Bisping vs Evans got 325k.

I like Dana’s video blog. It’s pretty interesting to see some of the things that go on behind the scenes. The most recent one (9/4/08) was one of the best. It had everyone in it: Chuck, Rashad, Couture, Florian, Lorenzo and the VP of Zuffa, all behind the scenes. It’s interesting to see them in an unofficial capacity.

  6. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

Randy’s been inactive for nearly a year. Chuck on the other hand has been part of this kind of roller coaster of drama.

    Not that surprising to me.

  7. Rollo the Cat says:

I am going out on a limb and I will say 680,000. I think the audience for the UFC is increasing all the time and the projections have to be adjusted.

  8. IceMuncher says:

I’m thinking 550k. Chuck and Jardine got 475k, and I think Chuck’s going into this fight with some fan momentum thanks to the Silva fight.

  9. 45 Huddle says:

The casual fans I know have purchased 4 PPV’s so far this year.

    1. Lesnar/Mir
    2. Penn/Sherk (Due to Tito Ortiz)
    3. Rampage/Griffin
    4. Liddell/Evans

Certain guys sell more PPV’s. Liddell is one of them.

  10. sved says:

    wow

    now w/ the Nog-Mir

    and the Lesnar-Couture matches upcoming

the whole PPV figures should be verrrrry

    interesting

something tells me that Tito will be back in the UFC—its just a very competitive 205 div—one of the best in all of MMA

and Tito doesn’t really have that much competition outside of UFC guys @205 unleess he wants only 2-3 matches a year and is willing to just collect the paycheck for doing EXC or AFFliction

    Of Course there’s always DREAM—-….hmm….
