The top headline in the major newspapers is the fact that the fans at the show heavily booed Yoshihiro Akiyama.

The claimed attendance was 11,986. There is discussion of Kiyoshi Tamura working the DREAM 6 show on 9/23 at Saitama Super Arena.

The ‘golden time’ telecast reportedly drew a 10.0 rating overall, with the highest quarter-hour mark being the Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Katsuyori Shibata fight at 13.7.

  1. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

Watched this full event today, I thought it was pretty good. I think Alvarez got ripped off, he had plenty of time for doctors to drain that eye and seemed to be otherwise fit to fight.

I was very pleased to see Aoki get the crap kicked out of him.

  2. will says:

I was also glad to see Aoki lose…. the favortism he recieves in Dream is disgusting …. He kept getting away with grabbing peoples gloves…and it seems like he gets away with everything…

  3. JapanMMA says:

    I am happy Hansen won.

I think the fans, Joachim and the organizers wanted Eddie to fight that final.

As it was Joachim made the best of the situation, Aoki is a very tough competitor and it was a HUGE win for Hellboy.

Hope Hellboy gets the fight both him and Eddie wanted!

  4. Damon says:

    Is that a Good rating?

  5. Matt says:

It was a very enjoyable event, on par with some of Pride’s better shows.
    The TV production was tight.
Three cheers for Hellboy. Jesus didn’t tap! LOL!

  6. Rollo the Cat says:

Best show of the weekend. The number sounds low to me compared to other events of the past. But it may be that MMA is part of the past in Japan.

  7. Donny says:

the 1st dream show did like a 8.9 or something

    13.7 is a step up

  8. Rollo the Cat says:

13.7 is the peak quarter hour. 10 is the average.

The first DREAM did terrible, but I am looking at thisrelative to other events in the past from K1 and Pride. MMA seems to have fallen off.

  9. zack says:

DREAM 5 was awesome….I’m glad I stayed up to watch it live.

  10. white ninja says:

while i enjoyed some of the fights – in particular alvarez and also aoki getting his arse kicked by hansen; Dream is a poor man”s Heros, and the ratings are a reflection of japanese consumer disinterest in the product

but then again, what better can you expect from the old guard from DSE

it was sad to see the decline in Hunt; one of my favourite fighters, but now becoming a joke (after his crap performances against Schilt and Overeem)

  11. jojo says:

anyone who thinks Alvarez got screwed is just a good old fashion idiot. That eye was fucked.

  12. MickDawg says:

    Yeah, that eye was bad.

But you know what, I think Eddie will get first crack at Hansen for the belt, so he’ll get his redemption.
