Stupid human tricks

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

By Zach Arnold In the past few weeks, we’ve heard promos from both Kurt Angle (WWE) and Rhyno (TNA – video of his open challenge here) talking about how they would accept any challengers from a 4-sided, 6-sided, or 8-sided ring. This, of course, has set off a fury on MMA boards and has pro-wrestling […]

Developing revisionist history

Friday, July 14th, 2006

By Zach Arnold On Friday, Josh Gross wrote an article on Sherdog titled Liddell vs. Silva: Why now? talking about the upcoming co-promotional matchmaking between PRIDE & UFC. The PRIDE source Gross quotes (and doesn’t dispute in the article) is engaged in amazing spin-doctoring, to the point that you start laughing at the claims being […]

Potholes in Kings’ Road

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

By Dave Ditch Four pro wrestlers have made headlines so far this month, and all of them have one thing in common: tours of All Japan Pro-Wrestling. Kenta Kobashi was trained there, debuted there, and became a top star there. He was first lauded as one of the best wrestlers in the world during the […]

UFC vs. PRIDE 2

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

By Zach Arnold My previous post on UFC vs. PRIDE can be found here. Reflecting upon the latest news developments with Vanderlei Silva apparently signing a 3-fight deal with UFC, one has to wonder what exactly is going to happen with both UFC & PRIDE in the future. There are a few possibilities on the […]

DVD Review – Heroes of World Class

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

By Sheldon Goldberg “Heroes of World Class: The Story of the Von Erichs & The Rise & Fall of World Class Championship Wrestling” Perhaps the most compelling story in the modern history of pro wrestling is the story of the Von Erich family and the Dallas-based World Class Championship Wrestling promotion. In the early 80’s, […]

Finding a bright spot in crisis

Friday, June 9th, 2006

By Zach Arnold 24 hours ago, Nobuhiko Takada gave one of his most inspired attempts on the microphone in order to put on a strong front for DSE in front of 600 fans and representatives from every single media outlet in Japan. View the Nippon TV video clip here. Image credit: Sports Navigator (Yahoo Japan) […]

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Yahoo Japan HP: “Yoshimoto, HG leave Hustle” By Zach Arnold Nikkan Sports (via Yahoo Japan) reports that Razor Ramon HG is about to leave Hustle due to orders from his bosses at Yoshimoto Kogyo. With the news of Fuji TV blacklisting anyone associated with DSE/PRIDE, this has sent shockwaves throughout the industry. Nikkan Sports says […]

Brock Lesnar & New Japan: Potential, Pride, Purgatory

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

By David Ditch It’s difficult to keep abreast of events that span industries (wrestling/MMA), continents (Asia/North America) and years all at the same time. Different narratives weave around each other. The events of the past week involving New Japan and Brock Lesnar highlight these difficulties. It takes someone with a borderline-obsessive thirst for wrestling news […]

Brock Lesnar’s MMA debut

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

By Zach Arnold Brock Lesnar made an appearance at the K-1 Las Vegas event (attendance claimed was 6,730) on Saturday night, and the Japanese press is reporting that Lesnar’s MMA debut is going to happen for Akira Maeda/K-1’s HERO’s promotion. Lesnar becomes yet another IWGP champion and star under the New Japan banner to be […]

Quinones was a mainstay in the Japanese independent scene in the early 90s (first with Atsushi Onita in the reincarnation of the Bruiser Brody murder angle in Puerto Rico, second as a booker with Kiyoshi […]

By Tetsuya Sano “邪道”大仁田がプロレス界に一日限りの復帰。 “Jadoh” Onita is back to puroresu for only one day. ソースはスポーツナビより This story source is here by Sportsnavi

By Sheldon Goldberg One of the hot topics in wrestling this week is TNA’s decision to punish Austin Aries and Roderick Strong for defying TNA’s request to fly to Florida early for their last pay per view and miss the Ring of Honor show for which they had already been booked. Just reading this story […]
