“I love watching Akiyama fight. He always come to bring it. (Even) if you look at Akiyama’s losses they’ve all been barnburners. I think his style matches up great with Vitor. Vitor is incredibly talented, has great hands, and Akiyama is gonna make him use them on Saturday night.”

MMA Fighting: ‘Business as usual’ means death of Strikeforce

Showtime has to see what the rest of us can see: Strikeforce is going in the direction of Pride and Affliction before it: A promotion that put on a lot of great fights, but was ultimately swallowed whole by the UFC.

A 24-year-old Swede, Gustafsson struggled mightily in his one fight against a wrestler, Phil Davis. MMA Convert: UFC 133 Evans/Ortiz preview

Akiyama/Belfort – The smart money is on the Brazilian winning (KO or TKO, take your pick) and this bout being way more exciting than the main event.

  1. 45 Huddle says:

    1) MMA Fighting is correct. People really didn’t understand what “business as usual” really meant.

    2) Michael Bisping is correct for probably 95% of the guys taking TRT.

    3) I’ll wait to see the reviews for Supremacy MMA. Then again, EA MMA got good reviews and that game was terrible. It really had the spirit of being better then the UFC game, but some fatal flaws madeit almost unplayable.

    4) Fedor/Henderson numbers good? More like numbers are irrelevent. Zuffa is gutting the company. They have already fired basically the entire company, except to keep on Scott Coker as a face of the company with no real power. Most of their fighters are already on the way to the UFC….

On a scale of 1-10 for UFC 133? About a 3…. And that’s basically all for the main event…. And basically for the “what if” Tito Ortiz wins. As much as it would be easy to pick Evans, he has been away for so long that it always makes it a shacky bet.

The two big questions I have right now concerning the sport are:

    1) With Fedor Emelianenko still having 1 fight left with Showtime, does this mean Showtime is stuck paying a guy with no real value and nobody to put on the fight?

    2) How dumb is the MMA fanbase with the White/Coenen fiasco? The women provides a check that literally shows exactly what Dana White said he did… And then people call him a liar for what he said.

The fact is that we have seen on multiple occasions that Strikeforce has paid foreign fighters like $2,000… When we all know they are getting more on the side. This is a business practice the UFC does not do. They pay bonuses, which are different. But the fighters BASE pay does not get pushed around the commissions for tax evasion purposes.

It shocks me how many fans couldn’t figure out these simple facts and were beyond confused. Also shows the Coenen isn’t exactly the smartest tool in the shed either.

I can attest that she is bright and charismatic. She’s no dummy.

(I’ll elaborate more on the ‘check’ issue in another post later on here.)

      • 45 Huddle says:

        I will say…

I do have the feeling that who Zuffa writes the check out to is probably about 10% of the real issue to them.

But it’s probably 50% of the real issue for GG….

Let’s say there is a 30% tax rate in their country…. And Alistair Overeem was offered $400,000 per fight from the UFC…. All of a sudden, that $400,000 becomes $280,000 per fight…. And if some other company is willing to pay that…. And Overeem doesn’t have to fight the same level of competition…. It quickly becomes a much easier decision for GG to say no to Zuffa….

And it’s probably one of the big reasons never discussed as to why M-1/Fedor never went with the UFC. I bet they used this same scheme…. Which is why when Strikeforce was offering less money…. It still was more to M-1 based on how they could avoid the taxes in the long run…

Shady people in the MMA business…. That is for sure…

Interestingly enough, Dana has actually gone on record saying that even the “locker room bonuses” are reported to the government for tax purposes.

      • 45 Huddle says:

        Which makes sense.

But it’s much harder for Alistair Overeem, getting a check in his own name, to avoid paying taxes.

It’s much easier to have it sent to a dumby corporation, use all the tax benefits they typically get, and then funnel the money to the fighters their own way.

Hence the problem for Golden Glory….

  2. Wonderjudas says:

I’ve a feeling there’s good money to be made by betting on both Sexyama and Ortiz. Mind you, I’m not converting that feeling into an actual bet…

  3. Mr. Roadblock says:

To answer the question posed in the thread.
