I’m surprised that Benavidez vs. Fabiano isn’t he co-main event because that fight is a huge one for the division and has the potential to be a classic.
Have to wonder how many of these fights will end up turning into “Loser doesn’t make it to the UFC” fights.
Not a great card, but I guess we should enjoy the WEC for it’s last 2 cards.
-Cub Swanson vs. Mackens Semerzier
-Yves Jabouin vs. Brandon Visher
-Zack Micklewright vs. Dustin Poirier
-Anthony Njokuani vs. Ed Faaloloto (I’m not even sure the winner should get in)
All fit your premise.
That was to 45.
Considering they have maybe all of 25 Featherweights under contract, and even fewer Bantamweights, I have a feeling if anything they’ll be overly generous to them for now, provided they don’t lose two straight and stink up the place.
The Lightweights, on the other hand….
Off-topic:
Main event of an fight card I was at last night. I went looking online to see if it was reported anywhere. JC Candelo vs. Chase Shields. 38-second clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiwHIhFnjXM
Its not even showing up on Boxrec yet. What is that kid thinking trying to get at Candelo like that? Candelo’s time is passed, but really – headbutting the dude like that? I’m surprised there wasn’t a full scale riot.
He was complaining of headbutting somewhat, but Shields was fighting as a southpaw and charging in repeatedly with his head up and his hands all the way down. He was at least 50% to blame for any headbutts, but he kept complaining like Candelo was doing it to him.
Candelo was clearly winning and Shields was getting more and more frustrated.
The fight was for some sort of WBC belt, I think.
And yes, I was totally expecting a riot.
That was pretty wild. Yeah Candelo’s time has passed. Anyone remember after Candelo’s victory over Julio Garcia Max Kellerman was proclaiming candelo to being the second coming of Christ? Those were the days.
But on a much more serious note, why did the Youtube page call JC Candelo “Blacktino”? He doesn’t go by that nickname these days, does he? I’m not PC at all, but that might be a smidgen offensive.
I just checked out Shields’ record, and this is now the SECOND time he was DQ’ed. And Shields has fought mostly crap opposition, except against Candelo (two losses) and Jimmy Lange (a twelve round unanimous decision win). Even two of his losses were against guys with awful records.
He went by it last night and even had it printed on his shorts and robe.
What a piece of garbage that guy is.
That’s egregious. He should get a minimum of a ban from boxing. And probably deserves to catch a case on that.
Were charges filed?
Indefinite suspension. Hopefully, that will stick.

Maybe California can re-license him without Texas’s permission.
ESPN just posted video of a high profile Flyweight Fight. It’s pretty good.

I legit lol’ed.
BWAHAHAHA! Good lord that was hilarious! Bloody brilliant roadblock, bloody fucking brilliant.
Personally, I thought they were straw-weights….
Gold.
That is hilarious.
So I guess this show is coming up?
-Faber by Decision. Maybe even TKO. He’s a better athlete than any of the guys at 135 and should run through that division with relative ease. I was just watching Mizugaki/Jorgenson the other day and man, that dude has issues with explosive wrestlers that can hit.
-WAR SHOWTIME. WAR SHOWTIME FOREVER.
-Fabiano is going to win and win with surprising ease in a boring fight. Expect some dropped jaws when people compare the bodies of Fabiano (a former 145lb stalwart) and Benevidez (who would be at 123…if it existed).
Don’t really care about the rest of the fight card.
Completely agree on both your Fabiano and Faber picks. Except I think Urijah will either get a guillotine or RNC after he beats him up. Fabiano is gonna tower over Benavidez, and he should feel a lot better at the weight now after fighting there twice..
Faber, Mendez, Koch, Fabiano, & Page. Not really too sure of some of my picks since I don’t know too much about a few guys on the main card.
Faber by RNC RD. 2- I think he’ll be a dynamo in this fight.
Fabiano by armbar Rd. 2- I think Benavidez will be over confident once it hits the ground. He won’t be able to dominate on the feet, and it will frustrate him into trying too much on the mat. No black belt will be eaten alive here. Upset City.
Mendes vs. Vasquez- Push – I truely have no idea in this fight. Vasquez’s confidence could either show up in a great performance stopping takedowns, out striking, and grabbing a sub on the newcomer. Or it could lead him into getting taken down by a guy who is a lot better of a wrestler than Antonio Mckee, Taurosevicius, and LC Davis put together. Hell Mendes could even catch him on the feet with something big. I just don’t know… Mendes by SD?
Page via TKO RD. 3 – Size, better striking, and better all around skills will win out after Page weathers an early storm.
Poirer via UD – This is another one I can’t really pick, but Zack had trouble making weight so….
Should be some great fights.
Also: Koch by beatdown
Faber, Vazquez, Koch, Benavidez, & Johnson
I predict that most people (including myself) are not familiar with any of those dudes past california kid.
I predict that the best of them are thankful for getting absorbed into UFC.
I predict 85% of them will either have open “maybe for cheap” contracts or be sent down the road within a year.
I loved the pre-fight show on Versus. I would love to see something like that implemented in the future on SpikeTV. Gives the program a true sports feeling and really sets up the evening of fights properly.
And if they ended up doing a weekly show, those types of discussions about the fights would be a great addition.
Whenever they add a 125 pound division, Benavidez will be champ for a while. His losses to Cruz were pretty close; that kid has great handspeed, is an exceptional grappler, and has fantastic stamina.
I think Demetrios Johnson and Jussier da Silva would have something to say about that.
