Anderson Silva/Chael Sonnen UFC rematch happening in a few months
By Zach Arnold | August 23, 2010

Lance Pugmire of The LA Times says…:
UFC will stage Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen rematch on New Year’s Eve or Super Bowl card, depending on Silva’s hurt ribs.
Fertitta saying Silva’s ribs bruised not broken, but still may require layoff until early Feb.
I’m not surprised by this news, as I expected the rematch (if it was going to happen) to happen for the Super Bowl weekend show. Makes the most sense.
I wouldn’t have had a problem with Sonnen vs. Vitor Belfort in a #1 contender’s match, but I also don’t have a problem with this immediate re-match given how the first bout turned out. Unlike other promotions, UFC is booking a re-match that has real importance and people actually care about seeing.
Meanwhile, let’s see Belfort get another win under his belt and if he can do that, then he gets the winner of the title match.

I said it before…. This is one of the very rare time when a challenger gets stopped in a non controversial fight…. And the immediate rematch is still worthy of happening.
As for Vitor Belfort. He hasn’t fought in almost a year. Didn’t make the 185 pounds limit for his last fight. I see no problem with him getting another fight under his belt first. They better put him against somebody that is also worthy of a title fight…. Because the winner of that fight should be next in line.
If Belfort wants to fight in November when Silva isn’t ready, and he does, then this is the best solution. Set up Belfort v. Okami, and Sonnen v. Silva. Winners fight each other. Simple.
Don’t assume that everyone wants to see this fight. I know that a lot of people do not want to see it for the simple fact that they are tired of hearing Chael Sonnen run his mouth.
Chael Sonnen is a lot like 45 Huddle, and I’ll just leave it at that.
I totally want to see this match.
Sounds good. Meanwhile let Vitor fight Okami for the #1 Contendership.
I think Sonnen/Anderson and Vitor/Okami is a great idea, but the only issue is if Okami and Sonnen win, you’re sort of left with a rematch that probably wouldn’t have a lot of interest (due to the result of the first match). I wonder if throwing Leben in the mix, for promotional reasons, isn’t the best idea and have the winner of Bisping/Akiyama face Okami with the winner of that facing someone out of Anderson/Sonnen/Vitor/Leben for the title shot after.
Just a thought.
I’d rather see Sonnen fight Belfort now for the #1 contender spot. Okami fight the winner of Marquardt-Palhares for the next shot after that.
But if Sonnen gets the immediate shot at Anderson(which he said he doesn’t wanna wait for) I’d like to see Belfort-Wand 2 simply because we’ve been waiting a million years for the rematch already.
