The heat-up for UFC Undisputed 2010 and UFC 114

IGN’s verdict on the new UFC Undisputed video game — good, but not great, and takes a while to learn how to really play the game well. Electronic Theatre has a more upbeat review on the game. Videogamer says the AI has been boosted significantly in this year’s version of the game.

Rampage Jackson told ESPN UK that he thinks Rashad will do ‘stupid leg kicks’ like Forrest Griffin did. Dave Meltzer says Rampage-Rashad is one of MMA’s great grudges. He has his Top 10 list of MMA grudges. Click on full-page mode to see his comments on Frank Mir’s next fight along with a prediction for who will win the Rashad/Rampage encounter.

I know Franklin McNeil draws heat for his appearances on MMA Live, but he does a good job here with this article on Dan Miller, giving you a back story on the man who will be facing Michael Bisping in the semi-main event of this weekend’s event. Miller knows that he’s fighting to keep his roster spot.

Speaking of UFC 114, Adam Hill has a preview of coming attractions with this weekend’s UFC Fan Expo. The Las Vegas Sun has more details.

Want to know how big UFC’s August 1st event will be in Utah? “This is the UFC, so it’s not an imitation, that’s for sure.” That’s from the building director of Energy Solutions Arena. Yeah, I’d say Utah is going to be a very hot crowd for the Versus taping.

Here’s the text from Dana White’s ESPN.com chat from yesterday.

Some more details about Georges St. Pierre training with Freddie Roach.

Yahoo Sports catches UFC doing WWE-style tweaking of Todd Duffee by hyping up the fact that he used to work at a Dairy Queen. Duffee’s reaction is priceless. Just like working for the WWE, once you sign with UFC you sign your loyalty to them and if you don’t stay in it 100% of the way, you’re not employed for long.

When will Frank Mir fight next?

From the Observer radio show last night:

“No date. The deal with Frank Mir is this. Nothing is going to be said or no opponent will be done until after July 11th. If Brock Lesnar loses, then they will do Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir because that makes complete sense to do it. If Brock Lesnar wins, then they’re going to have to come up with another idea and I don’t know who they’ll put him with. I’m trying to think… maybe… I don’t think they would go with Shane Carwin, but maybe… I don’t know… I don’t know who they would go, maybe Roy Nelson? Roy Nelson and the dos Santos loser? Probably, or maybe a re-match with (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira. Actually a pretty good chance that there would be a re-match with Nogueira if Lesnar is to win. But the match…you know, if they’re not going to make anything because they wanted… if Lesnar and Mir can be done, you know, it will be done.”

Thoughts on what the buy rate will be for UFC 114 and who will win the main event

“An interesting fight. I guess I already predicted 900,000 as the buy rate, so that’s my number. Boy oh boy… tough one to call. Rashad by decision. You know what? I think the fight’s going to be a disappointing just because I don’t think it’s going to live up to expectations. I think Rashad’s going to dance, use his speed. He really is quicker and I don’t think he’s going to, he’s going to have a hard time taking Quinton Jackson and that’s what he kind of likes to do. But I still you know… I don’t you know… it’s interesting because you know what people forget is when he fought Liddell in the first round not really much happened, it was kind of a nothing first round and Liddell, I remember giving Liddell the first round in that fight, but pretty much nothing happened, it was king of boring and he just hit him with that punch and knocked Liddell way out. And then when he fought Forrest Griffin, he lost the first round to Forrest and then when he took him down, I don’t know what happened. Forrest just forgot to anything about defense on the ground and Rashad just knocked him out with punches on the ground. It wasn’t much of a guard. Yeah, he just got knocked out, I mean out bad. But I don’t see his takedowns, you know like Rashad beat Thiago Silva with takedowns, I don’t see that happening but… I’m going to go with Rashad for a couple of reason. #1 is that when a guy comes off doing a major movie, whether it’s boxing or MMA, it’s usually very smart to pick against him. And this guy’s coming off a real major movie and he got real heavy and you know even though he may well training very hard, it takes a while to you know get that back and in gear and everything and… I also just think that Quinton Jackson will probably fight from emotion and Rashad will get in his head by having a really boring fight, he’s going to come forward and press and he will be encountered. That’s what I think it’s going to happen. It’s a pick ’em fight, I think. I don’t think it’s going to be a great fight.”

Thoughts on the rest of the fights on the UFC 114 card

“The undercard may be very good even though it’s not filled with names or anything or matches that I look at the matches, it’s like… nothing really great here. But they are some even matches, but it doesn’t stand out to me like you know the WEC show or even the Montreal show. The Montreal show you know the line-up when I looked at that line-up it was like man, it wasn’t a lot of names, but when you looked at the match-ups it was like, these were going to be really good match-ups and they were. Montreal was a really good, great undercard especially. You know the matches you didn’t even see were better than the matches that you did. But this one… you know what about the undercard, it’s interesting. Diego Sanchez and John Hathaway is an interesting fighting. That is intriguing. I mean Michael Bisping and Dan Miller will be interesting because people loathe Michael Bisping so people will be into the fight and Dan Miller’s a quality fighter, not a top-of-the-line guy but you know he’s a quality guy. But… we’ll see. But yeah, I just don’t see the match being, you know I think people want to see this great brawl and I don’t see this match being that.”

    1. Don’t fall in love with your boxing, GSP.

    2. Frank Mir is in a strange place. I don’t know what would be the next good fight for him. I would have said James Toney, but that one won’t be available.

    3. Old UFC fighter Zane Frazier just gave a very interesting interview on Carson’s Corner radio trainwreck/show. He talked about Frank Dux quite a bit and even said that Dux required some poor sap to rob a bank as part of his ninjutsu testing and got sentenced to the federal prison as a result.

  2. 45 Huddle says:

The UFC 2010 demo was really good. They made a lot of good changes to the game. I typically find that if it’s a genre I know I enjoy… And it gets over a 7.0…. Then I typically really enjoy it. But I am far from a hardcore gamer. Outside of the UFC, MLB, and a random movie based video game…. I really don’t know much about games.

  3. Bob says:

Maybe Rashad will try the leg kicks, but he isn’t 6’4″ like Forrest either.
