Quinton Jackson is a special kind of stupid.
1) He complains about the UFC, yet they have promoted him so well. And even after he gave them so much grief in December, they go ahead and give him the UFC Primetime Treatment.
2) What has hurt boxing is that the fighters run the show. Yes, a few select guys make more money because of it…. but it doesn’t help the sport. The major sports leagues are successful because it’s not about the names. Sure the names help… But it’s the overall league structure that helps keep things a well oiled machine for years. The same rings true for fighting. Having one major organization is important for the long standing health of the sport.
3) If he hates it so much… Then why sign another deal?
There are legit complaints about the UFC out there. Jackson does not have any legit ones. He is a complainer. He is a whiner. He isn’t even educated about the sport he is in. And many times the things he talks about don’t even have a base in reality.
In my opinion, you could have left it at “Quinton Jackson is a special kind of stupid.” That is pretty much close enough for me.
His entire existence as a d-list celebrity in the U.S. is due to the organization he professes to hate so much. I think he needs to learn to take stock of where he is and to be appreciative of it. Sure, things aren’t ever perfect, but he’s pretty damned well off in the big picture.
Ron Sparks…?….I guess that’s a step up? I honestly could care less about this guy at this point.
I think this fight is the last straw for many people for Bobby Lashley. You just can’t care about a guy who doesn’t want to test himself in any sort of way.
I see that Don King got a judge to enjoin Mayorga from fighting tonight. LOL, wow. Poor SHINE fights.
Complete amateurs. Make sure your fighter doesn’t have any other contracts that could conflict with them competing in your organization before you put tons of money into promoting his fight….
Plus, do you think Zuffa would have lost that same case in Nevada?
I think Zuffa would have been smart enough to not portray the fighter as a boxer, and the bout as BOXING VS. MMA. Zuffa would have promoted the guy as a MMA fighter who came from the boxing world. As I understand it, the injunction was issued based in part upon that distinction.
And yet another shining moment in boxing history. Boy do I get a laugh at people who take that corrupt sport seriously.
How has this affected boxing history, and is this judge not totally independent of boxing and Don King? I’m not saying that you’re right or wrong about whatever your point is, but I’m not entirely sure what you’re implying.
MMAjunkie had a huge banner up the past couple days saying “BOXING vs MMA”.
This one is on the Shine Fights promoters.
Mayorga is Don King’s property as far as boxing goes. Shine tried to say it’s MMA, not boxing. That’s fine. But then they run ads saying “BOXING vs MMA”. Not smart. You could have gotten a different judge to give a different ruling. But it’s not hard to see what that judge saw and how the decision got made.
Too bad because I kind of wanted to see that fight. I was hoping it would time out where that was over before Malinaggi and Khan hit the ring.
Rampage is getting knocked the fuck out at UFC 114 by Rashad count on it. It’s clear that he has his mind on everything except being a fighter we’ve seen what happened to other guys who were more worried about money and other bs than fighting they got beat and embarrased. Quinton Jackson will be the next example of a guy who went hollywood then got his ass beat what an idiot.
Yeah, why would a PROFESSIONAL fighter (i.e. one who is PAID to fight) care about money above competing for the pure enjoyment of competition (i.e. amateur)? That’s just crazy talk!
It’s not the fact that he fights for money that is the problem (far from it). It’s the fact that he is BITCHING, in public, about not being paid enough, and seems like he isn’t worried about getting his head knocked off by Evans. And it seems like his head isn’t quite screwed on correctly right now and has other things on his mind. THAT is dangerous going into a high profile fight.
Of course a professional fighter should be worried about pay. But that should be third on a fighter’s agenda going into a fight. The two above money should be winning and not getting hurt too badly. The fighter’s agent should be the one worried about the money going into a fight. When the fight is done and over with THEN the fighter can worry to their heart’s content over the fight purse.
And with that the whole Shine card is canceled by the North Carolina commission. Zach, hopefully you’ll get a chance to do an article on this as I’d like to see your take.
I don’t know how the commission can do that, off the top of my head. My first thought was that there aren’t enough scheduled rounds, but most commissions’ rules require a minimum number of scheduled rounds, which wouldn’t apply here.
I am wondering that as well. The only thing I can think of is maybe there was a problem with the bond the promoter had to put up in order to actually hold the event was tied to the main event somehow but then that doesn’t make any sense either. Regardless, the details will probably be coming out over the course of the next couple of days.
The site for the N.C. commission is crap. I was going to go through their rules, but couldn’t find them.
I will bet you that there is much more to this than we’ll ever hear. You may be on to something with regard to Shine being able to guarantee certain payments and whatnot.
Maybe we are buying the “commission cancels event” line too quickly. It’s entirely possible that the promotion cancelled it and the first stories out aren’t 100% correct.
Commissions get paid off ticket sales. You probably would have had a 90%+ refund at that show.
I wonder if that factored into it.

I am pissed that Mayorga did not fight and that the card was canceled.
Well, Overeem is now a legit top ten guy. There’s no disputing it. Rogers was WAY too cautious tonight. He fought Overeem like he fought Fedor than Rogers could probably have knocked Overeem out.
Well, if Rogers is lucky, then it can get turned into a no contest in the future…
Strikeforce Thoughts…
1) Why didn’t they interview most of the fighters after their fights? Really killed any hype.
2) They should have shown Fancy Pants vs. Shaolin. They had time. Forget about us fans…. It’s a very nice way to make your own fighters mad by giving them zero exposure.
3) Cavalcante looked almost disinterested during the entire fight until he landed the big blow. What’s up with these Brazilians being headcases? I do think he automatically gets the next shot at the belt because they don’t have any other challengers.
4) Roger Gracie…. Just like the other grappling wizards before him in MMA…. Doesn’t have much of a future in the sport. I just don’t see his style translating well. I wonder if he will fight a 2nd time in 2010.
5) Kevin Randleman still needs to retire.
6) All of the shine and hype of Souza left after that fight. He looks extremely ordinary after the 1st round. He would have been KO’d by a bunch of middle level UFC fighters in the 2nd or 3rd round.
7) Andrei Arlovski should retire.
8) Antonio Silva…. I’m not sure if it’s a stamina problem or what… But he always looks to have so much potential but then completely slowly down after 5 minutes. Frustrating fight to watch. He didn’t help his cause for moving up the ladder in the division.
9) Alistair Overeem…. People can finally call him a Top 10 fighter…. And it would be legit. He looked good. Completely toyed with Rogers.
10) Brett Rogers was a beaten man before the bell. As soon as I saw the way he backed up 10 seconds into the fight… I knew he was going to lose. He is the new Gabrial Gonzaga. A one hit wonder who wasn’t as good that win would indicate. He, along with Arlovski, should be out of any legit Top 10 ranking.
11) Why do I get the feeling that we will not see Fedor Emelianenko vs. Alistair Overeem? I think Fedor would lose that fight. Overeem has limitations…. But Fedor does not look very good anymore…. I can’t see Fedor winning that fight. And because of that…. I can’t imagine his management signing on to let him fight Overeem.
Overall…. Decent card…. The announcers were once again horrible. Mauro was bad as always…. But was shamefully bad when he was mentioning Overeem’s loss to Werdum right after his dominating win. WTF!!! Build your champion up….

You think Randleman and Arlovski should still fight? I have said the same thing about Liddell and Couture. But somehow when it’s said about non-UFC fighters I have tinted glasses.
Gracie looked like he had no clue how to strike out there. We have seen so many world class grapplers…. many of them don’t have what it takes to make the transition. Why would Gracie be any different? his style doesn’t translate well to MMA.
Am I being negative or am I just being honest? I would say the later of the 2.
Except that Rogers is overated, yeah he gave a tought fight to Fedor so did Mark Hunt but neither guy belonged in the top 10. One win over a shot AA which we saw again tonight does not a top contender make, props to Overeem though he’ll get himself a nice payday against Fedor at the very least.

2) Brock Lesnar

5) Frank Mir

The running candidates for the 10th spot would be…. Antonio Silva, Roy Nelson, & Gabriel Gonzaga. None of them feel real worthy of making the Top 10 at this point…. I would almost be inclined to leave that spot empty.
Give it to either Silva or Brett Rogers. Silva for his win tonight (AA was still a consensus top ten guy. But I agree he should be booted out of all top ten lists) And Rogers because his win over AA (back to him!) and because his losses were Fedor and Overeem (Overeem was still a top 15 or so heavyweight, but yes now top ten) and Nelson I could understand. Gabriel Gonzaga? Hell no! I would rather give it to Travis Wiuff!
But seriously, give it to Silva. Brett Rogers could be…..I guess number 11? I do agree with your top ten otherwise.
Just based off of your rankings, it looks as though Brock has only fought one top 5 fighter in his career! And yet, you want to slam Fedor for not having done so since 2005…which is a convenient way of skewing and distorting what happened at the time versus where they are now post-Fedor (which is an interesting point that I’ll discuss later).
Tell me what is wrong with Arlovski being ranked in the top 5 at the time he fought Fedor – AT THAT TIME, he had been undefeated for nearly 3 years, riding a 5 fight winning streak against TOP 10 FIGHTER (according to your rankings) Werdum, and borderline top 10 (according to you) Roy Nelson. His only losses in a SEVEN-YEAR span were to Tim Sylvia, who was the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion. His record in that interval was 11-2. Please tell me who you would have ranked above him at that time, outside of PERHAPS Mir, Lesnar, and Nogueira (and Fedor, obviously). That sounds like top 5 to me!
As for Sylvia, who would you have ranked above him AT THAT TIME, in 2008? Frank Mir, who went 4-2 during this time frame (with losses to Marcio Cruz and Brandon Vera, who Sylvia beat in the meantime) while Sylvia went 5-2 (losses to Couture and Nogueira, win over common opponent Vera)? Lesnar, who was 1-1 with a loss to Mir? Who should have been ranked above him in July 2008?
The Post-Fedor effect…it’s conveniently-used when you want to denigrate Fedor’s accomplishments, yet no one truly wants to acknowledge the fact that FIGHTERS ARE NOT THE SAME AFTER FEDOR BEATS THEM. Has anyone beaten by Fedor ever reached the same pinnacle of achievement they were at prior to meeting him? Nogueira, Crocop, Herring, Sylvia, Arlovski, Coleman, Randleman, Hunt…look at where there careers were PRIOR to fighting Fedor, look where they’re at now.
BTW, feel free to continue on with your “Fedor hasn’t fought anyone since 2005” bullshit elsewhere on FightOpinion, I’ll just be sure to follow with a copy/paste of this post that completely invalidates your argument. 🙂
So based on the last 4.75 years, Brock Lesnar would be more worthy of a #1 ranking then Fedor as he has beaten a Top 5 fighter and Fedor has not…. See how easily that happens?
At some point, you either sh!t or get off the pot. You either continue to fight the top tier guys or get out.
Arlovski…. He never beat a Top 5 fighter. So he can’t be ranked in the Top 5. Win streaks mean nothing. It’s about QUALITY of opponents. And those wins were against borderline Top 10 guys.
Sylvia…. Was NEVER Top 5 while in the UFC. He was always behind the Top 5 Pride guys. Then near the end of his UFC career, he goes 1-2…. And then suddenly he is Top 5 when he fights Fedor? BWAHAHAHA!!! That’s too funny!!
Fedor… Those guys don’t do good after fighting Fedor because they were never that great to begin with. Look at Jon Fitch after he lost to GSP. Look at Florian after he lost to Sherk. Those were guys who lost in title fights and then either worked their way back or are on the cusp of it. It is proof that they were legit challengers. Do you think Hardy is going to get a title shot again? He will lose a few times and never get anywhere close to the title. It’s because he was pushed into a title fight but really wasn’t Top 5. Hmmmm, who does that sound like? Oh yeah, Fedor’s opponents over the last almost 5 years….
GSP beat Fitch when he was ranked #2 in the world. Beat Alves when he was ranked #3 in the world. Beat Hughes in their 2nd and 3rd fights when he was Top 5. Here is a guy who is beating top guys at the top of their game.
That isn’t happening with Fedor. The Top guys are in the UFC, and he is avoiding that company like the plague.
He is going to avoid fighting Overeem now and FINALLY people will see him for what he really is…

Until yesterday, Overeem was not a Top 10 fighter because he had not proven it. That win over Rogers got him into the Top 10. Not very hard to understand.
And Fedor’s management has already talked about not wanting to fight Overeem because of roids. Overeem said Fedor ducked him and had his shot to fight him.
It’s all out in the open. Fedor’s people will find some excuse not to make this fight happen and head to Japan to fight Antonio Silva or some scrub.
