[Bellator] No comparison between the FSN/CSN and Telemundo HD broadcasts

By Zach Arnold | April 16, 2010

Print Friendly and PDF

The American fight fans are watching an inferior product in terms of production on Thursday nights.

I’m watching the Telemundo HD version of Bellator’s Thursday night event from Chicago and the tightly-edited production on the Telemundo program made the show much more enjoyable to watch. Plus, you get to see the fighters do interviews in Spanish (including Toby Amada).

The commentatory by lead announcer “George X” is very good. The dual English/Spanish language translations and graphics work smoothly. There’s no time wasted on the Telemundo broadcast. You get a lot more unique features on the Telemundo show.

In contrast, the FSN/CSN events drag on television. The production doesn’t feel all that tight. It feels like a long two-hour broadcast. Plus, the FSN/CSN show is pre-empted in several markets weekly because it’s baseball and hockey season. No such problems with the Telemundo broadcast.

If you aren’t a fan of the US broadcasts of the Bellator events live, go out of your way to watch the Telemundo HD version (also available on Mun2).

Do the fights still suck though? That’s my main issue.

LEGIT LOL. I really don’t care what they do with that show. Maybe I’ll watch for the finals of these tournaments, but that’s about it. That first show makes even a bad episode of Friday Night Fights seem totally appealing.

    • smoogy says:

With the tournament field being far better this season, yes, the fights have been of higher quality. Aside from the Askren vs. Thomas debacle, Bellator 14 was really entertaining. I could watch Wilson Reis’s half guard sweeps all day, he is probably the most fun BJJ fighter to watch in American MMA.

      • Alan Conceicao says:

Do you really think that these guys are significantly better than your average TUF field from, say, two years ago? I don’t see it. I think they’re better than TUF’s last couple seasons worth of guys but that doesn’t mean a whole lot.

  2. David says:

TY for the heads up Zach. I couldn’t put a finger on why the production wasn’t good. Going to watch in Spanish, so I’ll relearn a little bit, not a bad deal! ty

  3. 45 Huddle says:

I think what has hurt the shows for me is:

    1) They don’t put the entire brackets on one show.

    2) Fighter quality level is too low.

    3) They don’t put the main event on last. Which means te last live fight has zero interest.
