  1. Zheroen says:

Solid main card and some good dark matches (Fabiano, Jorgensen, Tapia, Vasquez, Valencia)…I just hope people are actually able to see it. For all the flak Affliction received for being a dead end promotion, WEC’s future seems even more grim due to the DirecTV skirmish with Versus.

  2. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

This is on a strange night as well (for WEC). Even if someone know a WEC was happening this weekend, they might assume that it was on Sunday, as normal.

  3. 45 Huddle says:

I have no interest in this card at all. The main event is interesting but not main event worthy. This is the first WEC card in a while that I have no care for. They typically put on stacked cards.

And the WEC is just sticking around to keep the smaller fighters away from other organizations…. And to make it easy to transfer them over to the UFC when the time is right.

  4. Zheroen says:

I think SO MUCH stock was put into Faber being this unbeatable phenomenon that once Mike Brown defeated him twice, they’ve not since been able to recover…especially once Torres lost to Bowles the way he did. Now it just seems like a collection of random small guys having good fights with no hype whatsoever.

  5. theYiffer says:

Take this for what it’s worth. I was at the weigh-ins yesterday. During the Q & A someone asked Frank Mir about WEC’s future. Mir claimed that WEC has cards set into 2010. So if WEC is really on life support, they at least have a couple of months to figure out what to do or to roll everything into the UFC.

Tonight’s card looks pretty good to me. Promotions need to also provide opportunities to let lesser know fighters to shine. My only real problem is the lack of promotion here in town and nationwide.

  6. IceMuncher says:

Thanks to DirecTV, this will be the first WEC event I missed in a long time. It’s a shame too, because for whatever reason, those tiny little men in the WEC always seem to have the best fights. They’re close, competitive match-ups and the fighters go all out every round.

They really need to merge with the UFC. Hopefully when the WEC goes on PPV next year, it fails miserably, so Zuffa has no choice but to absorb them into the UFC fold.

  7. 45 Huddle says:

IceMuncher is a Zuffa hater for wishing the WEC fails on PPV!!! lol

I too wish for the WEC to fail on PPV. First, as IceMuncher said, it would help push towards the merger. And secondly, I don’t want to be spending more then $45 a month on fighting. Having a UFC AND WEC PPV in the same month is crap.

  8. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

Faber’s the Rich Franklin of the WEC.

Basically unbeatable at his chosen weight…except one guy.

  9. Ivan Trembow says:

Wagnney Fabiano being put in yet another prelim = pathetic

  10. EJ says:

While this event has been hurt by injuries and other things personally speaking i’m very pumped for this show. Cerrone is a must see fighter and Henderson always brings it this has the potential to be the fight of the year. The rest of the card is ok but as always the WEC cards always pack alot of action and excitement. People really need to get over the fact that the WEC is here to stay and isn’t going anywhere. Enjoy the fight on free tv and realise that we are seeing some great fighters and fights on a regular basis becauese of it because I sure as hell am.

  11. Robert Poole says:

Vitor fights at 185 (only came up to 195 for Franklin) now and he annihilated Franklin.

Franklin was the best of a very, very weak division awhile back but his lack of elite ability is glaring against better fighters.

  12. 45 Huddle says:

    **********UNDERCARD SPOILER********

I have a feeling Wagnney Fabiano will finally make it back to the televised card!! That should make Ivan happy!

He was submitted by triangle choke early in the 1st round. Huge upset.

  13. Chuck says:

I would love to, but I am over my dad’s place, and he has DirecTV, so I got screwed there. But we did order the boxing ppv (with Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Whyber Garcia and Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Rogers Mtagwa). Very good ppv, and the Lopez/Mtagwa fight is a good candidate for fight of the year. Awesome fight! Lopez won via unanimous decision. Gamboa won his fight via 4th round TKO. Hopefully I can catch a WEC replay tomorrow when I am back at my house (where I have Comcast. Fingers crossed!).

I have to say, those independently done boxing ppvs by Top Rank are almost always, top to bottom, better than HBO ppvs. Almost like WEC to UFC. The “smaller” guys have less star-power, but more competitive fights.

  14. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

Holy shit, what the hell is Henderson made from? I could swear that shoulder was dislocated.

  15. EJ says:

Talk about calling your shot, I told you that the WEC show was going to be good and that Cerrone vs. Henderson was going to be FOTY. There you go, everyone crying about folding the company needs to be ready to miss out on great shows like this which happen on a regular basis for free. Like I said earlier I love the WEC because the lighter guys always bring it and this show once again proves that they need to stay around for awhile longer.

  16. IceMuncher says:

I was able to catch the show at my friend’s place. Like I said earlier, WEC always puts on one heck of a show.

If you’re scheduled to fight Ben Henderson, do you even bother practicing your submissions? I don’t think he has blood, he just absorbs oxygen directly through his skin.
