“Dana White and Vince McMahon are so much alike, it’s uncanny.”

By Zach Arnold | April 15, 2009

Print Friendly and PDF

35,000 views in less than 24 hours for the tape-loving, attention-seeking UFC President who reportedly less than two weeks ago was not going to do Youtube video blogs for a long time after his infamous Youtube rant on Loretta Hunt.

With great power comes great responsibility. In Dana White’s world, he doesn’t have to play by the conventional rulebook as long as he is rewarded for what he does. No damage, no foul, right? Let’s just hope the UFC boss doesn’t have a Stephanie McMahon 9/11 moment any time soon on camera.

In an interview with The Canadian Press on Tuesday, Dana White says that he is a victim and that the media took advantage of him after his Youtube comments.

“I went directly to the people that I offended. And the reality is I have gay friends, I have gay people that I respect, that I work with and do things with. And I reached out to them and the people who could be offended by what I said, and I apologized and I told my side of the story.”

As to the rest of the media? White uses the F-bomb to describe what they can do to themselves.

“Because it has nothing to do with them. They used me, that’s the way I look at it.”

As for the future of additional Youtube video blogs?

“I’m still on the fence with the whole blog thing,” he said Tuesday. “I have a blog right now that we shot yesterday (Monday) and now we’re all sitting around wondering if this is too controversial.”

“I’m me, I’m who I am. That’s not going to change, you know. Maybe who I am is too much, too much for the real world,” he added with a chuckle. “But I’m not going to deal with all the bullshit.”

  1. Dave says:

Yeah, this is so Vince McMahon. This has nothing to do with UFC 97 or any of the fighters. This is just Dana White hobbing his own nob.

  2. Fluyid says:

That “I gotta be me” stuff is very childish.

  3. Ivan Trembow says:

It seems that the “no more video blogs” line that Zuffa fed to Dave Meltzer and Carmichael Dave lasted less than two weeks.

Furthermore, the tape over Dana White’s mouth at the end seems to indicate that he’s going even further down the same Vince McMahon path of not just “me vs. the media,” but “us vs. the media,” with “us” being “UFC fans.”

He’d like to talk to you, the UFC fans, and give you all of the video blog content that you love so much, but the damn media wants to put a muzzle on him!

  4. Fluyid says:

^Given the audience he’s playing to, you know they’ll buy it.

  5. Chris says:

    What a silly man.

  6. klown says:

    Pathetic.

  7. The Citizen says:

Amazing. You can curse off anyone you want, name them, have a video seen by millions of people, and not once be asked about why you called that person out. I wonder what would have happened if he didn’t mention the “f” word?

I watched ESPN’s Anik and Florian last week say Dana’s apology was good, blah blah blah, and even with Loretta Hunt in studio.

    This whole thing smells.

I got through 30 seconds of the Silent Movie and am adding Dana to the Doodie List.

You’re right about that, and it also doesn’t hurt to have an obedient MMA media who will do anything to avoid losing their credentials.

  9. Robert Poole says:

You gotta wonder what this dude has on the Fertitas for them to let him pull all the shit he does, disgracing their company and any semblance of a professional image they are trying to portray.

  10. Zack says:

LOL @ Dana playing the role of the martyr. No one asked him to not speak his mind, they just asked that he doesn’t call women bitches or men faggots, and if his apology was so sincere why is he playing this role?

It’s also hilarious that the whole point of the Loretta blog was telling someone to shut the fuck up. So everyone should shut the fuck up except him? The poor me, martyr angle is one of the most ridiculous spins he could’ve taken.

Good to hear that Dana won’t be toning down his style because a couple of people got their feelings hurt. This was a fake controversy much like the BJ-GSP grease bs, it just seems like people are reaching for anything to make a controversy out of. Dana is Dana, he is very popular with the UFC fans and has made tons of money for the Fertitas why in the world would he change anything when he’s been so successfull being him fuck the PC police.

  12. Fluyid says:

“Good to hear that Dana won’t be toning down his style because a couple of people got their feelings hurt.”

Were you around before TUF 1, when his “style” was to be slouching and soft-spoken while sporting a Phil Collins haircut? I was around him a little bit back then, and he didn’t have this fake toughguy image yet. He certainly wasn’t the F-bomb dropper that he is now.

Which one is his true persona, the one he came to the sport with or the one he affects now?

  13. EJ says:

Did you forget his little speech during season 1 of TUF?, Dana has his quiet momments but overall he’s a loudmouth cussing sob and that is perfectly fine with most UFC fans.

  14. jr says:

Dana’s the biggest carny. He’s a more svelte Roland Alexander

  15. skwirrl says:

Where is Subo or MMAlogic to bring some “perspective” (UFC fanboyism) to this argument!

  16. The Citizen says:

With art video projects like these, Dana will most likely gain access to a tremendous fine art institution. Well done!
