By Zach Arnold | December 29, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

A fascinating look at his meeting with Satoshi Ishii (that looked like Manabu Takashima was acting as the translator there), along with all of the various details heading into the production of the event that the UFC President micro-manages.

  1. IceMuncher says:

    Dana loves that pen.

  2. 45 Huddle says:

WAMMA is making the Alvarez vs. Aoki fight for the WAMMA Lightweight Title. so much for a good sanctioning body (I never bought into it anyways).

    1. They are ranked #2 & #3, so they don’t even have a title fight between their own #1 ranked fighter.

    2. Aoki shouldn’t be ranked #2, as he just lost to Hansen in his last fight.

    3. Too many websites cover this garbage thing. It needs to go away fast.

  3. Rob says:

He lost Hansen after a 15 minute fight, while Hansen foght 2 minutes. WHne both fresh Aoki wins 8/10.

Randy seemed pretty high on Ishii, “he could do whatever he wants”

  4. 45 Huddle says:

A win is a win. They both competed under the same set of rules. If their last fight means nothing, then rankings are pointless. About as pointless as WAMMA.

  5. Rob says:

well, look at what they have done in the last few years. Aoki has lost once in the last 3 years, and it was a fight that could have gone either way (sakurai fight)

Hansen has lost to Alvarez, and Mitsuoka in the last year alone. So having Hansen ahead of Aoki is ridiculous.

  6. S says:

Thats is not Manabu. That is a guy from Wowwow.

  7. 45 Huddle says:

    Rob,

That makes no sense. Aoki has no major wins since losing the Hansen, and therefore must be ranked below him. If he is not, then a ranking system is literally pointless. The latest fights rule all.

Frank Mir probably isn’t the 2nd best Heavyweight in the world, but he should be ranked as such next time. That’s the way those rankings work.

  8. IceMuncher says:

Aoki’s loss to Hansen has an asterix next to it. However, about 1/2 the fights in MMA also have an asterix next to them. How many times do we hear that a fighter was injured and couldn’t train properly, he had personal problems, or he was a late replacement and had a short camp.

If you keep Aoki at #2 despite his loss, your rankings are very subjective. It’s fine to have subjective rankings, as long as you’re well aware of it. However, if you’re WAMMA, your rankings should not be subjective at all. Not even a little.

  9. 45 Huddle says:

Speaking of bad rankings…. The new Sherdog.com rankings just came out.

Nogueira was ranked #2 in the world…. They now have Arlovski at #2, Barnett at #3, and Mir at #4. Those have to be some horrible rankings. Who has Arlovski beaten to get the #2 spot? Their anti-UFC policy is getting in the way of a decent ranking system.

  10. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

Asterix is hilarious. God those French comic artists are brilliant.

  11. 45 Huddle says:

**** Frank Mir can’t beat most Heavyweights in the Top 10.

Even with that said, he beat the #2 HW in the world. He is now #2 in the world until more fights take place.

Same for Hansen and Aoki. Without that very basic logic skills, rankings are pointless.

  12. IceMuncher says:

    Er, asterisk. My bad.

  13. Ivan Trembow says:

From reading this (on Five Ounces of Pain), you’d think that Quinton Jackson came down with the flu and cut in line one spot at the supermarket:

““No, I don’t think there should be any problems with Rampage legally,” White responded during his guest appearance on Carmichael’s show, which can be heard Monday through Friday from 9-midnight PT on Sports 1140 AM in Sacramento. “Obviously he’s got to go to court because that thing happened. But he had delerium. He had something wrong with him. It wasn’t like he was on drugs or drinking alcohol or doing any of that stuff. He was doing the right thing and he got sick and like anyone who got sick and goes to court, I don’t think he’s going to have any issues.””

  14. ajax says:

whats next Dana. Where’s the whoopie cushion.
