Satoshi Ishii postpones decision on whether or not to convert to MMA

By Zach Arnold | October 6, 2008

He held a press conference in the last few hours to publicly announce that he would not make a decision regarding his future in Judo or MMA at this very moment. If he stays on the current course and does not enter MMA, he will likely participate at the 2012 London Olympic games.

  1. ttt says:

what’s the big deal about this dude? is he going to fight Akiyama / Yoshida? … or Fedor?

  2. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

He’s a silver medalist and a really big dude (for a Japanese guy). And as far as we know, he doesn’t have a tumor on his pituitary gland.

Silver medalist at the last Asian games, Gold at the last Olympics. I can’t complete a sentence today for some reason.

  3. Chuck says:

I am willing to bet he will go towards the money (MMA). There is no money in judo unfortunately. There is no professional judo leagues out there (that I know of). Kind of reminds me of Savate fighters in Europe who do Muay Thai fights because Savate is an amatuer-only combat sport. So it is natural that former amatuer wrestlers and Judoka (and sumo as well) go into pro wrestling and MMA, because that is where the money is.
