Defending Steve Cofield

A lot of people apparently like to rip into him for his MMA postings online. Personally, I don’t see why there’s any hatred of Mr. Sunshine.
Steve’s been a great addition to the Yahoo MMA blog. (Did you read the Yahoo MMA blog before he started posting there? No.) He brings some color and flare that’s desperately needed in the MMA writing field, plus he’s well-connected and breaks stories (like Randy Couture and UFC mending fences).
Steve’s amusing, and he understands not to take himself too seriously unlike others in the sports writing business. If he can get paid to write about MMA in a humorous and cutting manner, then all the more power to him for doing so.

I think people get on the hate train and the whole thing snowballs. Iole kinda gives Yahoo MMA a bad name, so that probably doesn’t help.
But yea, reading his stuff, he’s pretty good and people straight up hate on him for no good reason – the internet is a hell of a thing.
I think they perceive him as another ignorant mainstream guy with way too much access for his mma knowledge level. Personally I like Steve because he’s willing to piss people off and say shit others won’t and ask things others don’t.
Cofield rocks, anyone who says otherwise is missing out.
Calling Cofield a UFC shill is so off the mark. Does he write about UFC and talk about Dana White? Sure. But as I’m sure most people that do this kinda stuff know, your average reader is looking for any and everything UFC.
Cofield is actually an interesting writer who knows his stuff and has contacts.
I mean, Iole as a shill, yes. We all know that. His writing style is ridiculous and rarely ever comes off as informed and insightful.
I think it is just a few troll commenters tearing into Cofield, which you get at any blog.
True, but it is so much better aimed at Iole.
