We’re never going to see Couture vs. Fedor, ever?
By Zach Arnold | September 2, 2008

Can anyone read this with a straight face?
Complicating a potential Emelianenko match is that the Russian is signed to two contracts. His primary promoter is M-1, led by his manager, Vadim Finkelstein. But he has two more fights on a contract with Affliction Entertainment for any bout in the United States.
Affliction Entertainment vice president Tom Atencio said Tuesday he is finalizing an extension that would bind Emelianenko to Affliction through 2012.
White suggested on the conference call that Affliction is on the verge of collapse and intimated that there might be a way that a Couture-Emelianenko fight could be made in the UFC. Atencio hotly denied that and said he expects to turn a profit, or at the worst break even, after two more fight cards.

Fedor irrelevant? What a joke. The fans get fucked over again. How suprising.
One of my favorite parts of the online call was when Brock lost it over the Fedor talk. I think one reporter did mention that its Randy’s #1 choice, but Brock, the fans want to see Fedor fight. We will still watch you and Randy, but Fedor has a special place in our hearts, that is why we always want to see him fight.
I’m excited for this fight and think it’s going to make history with the UFC hype machine behind it. The amount of buzz following the return is at insane levels. Hopefully (but unlikely) it leads to Fedor fighting one or both of them down the line.
I have to say that I do get the feeling that if this was Lesner vs. Fedor in Japan we’d be hearing about what a “freakshow” it is…but I digress.
Contract extension till 2012? Turning profits after three fight cards? What the fuck? Man, what alternate universe does the Affliction guys live in?
killacelebrity and The Citizen,
When you get down to it, the real reason this fight is being made is because it’s the fight all the fans want to see.
If you found out the total number of fans in N.America interested in Fedor vs Couture, you could add a zero to it and get the amount of fans interested in Couture vs Lesnar.
I can’t believe anything Atencio says…
