Quote of the Week: Rampage Jackson on how UFC is treating him

From an interview with Gary Herman:
I am happy with how the UFC is treating me. They are treating me better than the organization I came from – PRIDE. I can’t complain. Money can always be better. Fighters have to fight each other. We are the ones that have to train hard and fight each other. We could always use more money. It didn’t matter if I make a billion dollars – then I’d want two billion.
Like I said, I am very happy. I could have it worse. As a matter of fact, it was worse in that other organization.

One thing that is noteworthy:
The article makes it clear that the fighters are getting paid royalties for the use of their likeness. This is something that Tito and Randy had complained about in the past.
Man, I never thought Quinton Jackson as the type to tow company line. I would LOVE to hear what Quinton says about UFC if and when he ever leaves…
Regarding the merchandising, what is the percentage that they’re getting?

Is there anything anybody could ever say that would make you change your preset opinion of the UFC?
Btw, it’s toe the line, not tow the line. It’s a very common misconception.

It was “worse in that other organization” because he was getting beat up by Silva and Shogun all the time.

I didn’t say what I said over whatever opinions I have of UFC. It had more to do with the fact that Quinton said something out of character for him. I am not certain, but I bet he said great things about his expeerience in PRIDE in interviews, and he is doing it in UFC. And I bet if/when he is ever gone from UFC I bet he wouldn’t TOE (thanks for the correction. I looked it up and found a website talking about the confusion of the spelling) company line. He would probably say stuff like them giving him an opportunity, decent paydays, etc. but would probably trash Dana White or Joe Silva or whoever else.
And my opinion of UFC? It’s a great MMA company. The biggest in the U.S. right now, and I have been a fan since ZUFC 5 back in 1995. I just think Dana White is an egotistical douchebag and attention whore. He probably didn’t get hugged by mommy or daddy as a kid, so he needs attention. I’m only assuming of course… Oh, and to clarify, I hate Gary Shaw even more than Dana White, but I stressed that a few times on this site.

There is no news as to what the rate is.
But one thing that was interesting: It is non-exclusive. A fighter that signs a merchandising deal can still do whatever he wants outside of it, he just can’t use the Zuffa copyrights.
I’m suprised he’s saying that since he hasn’t fought since September. But then again he is the champion, so you would think they would take care of their top guys.
I remember when rampage was in Pride he was blowing their horn saying that Pride was ‘the bomb’ and saying ‘fuck them’ to the UFC.
I think Rampage is happy where he’s sucessful more than anything else.
i think he’s just hyping up the UFC cuz that’s where he’s at now. just like he hyped up Pride when he was there. For people who have watched the Pride Legacy video (one of my favourites although probably a bit revisionist), they showed the 2003 GP press conference before it began, he told Dana and Chuck that Pride was “ichiban” and promoted it very well.
While I have no doubt Rampage was very happy for a large part of his time in Pride, his relationship with them deteriorated quite a bit in the last year or so that he was with them.
True of pretty much everyone who worked for the organization from what I hear.
Not getting paid does that.
