    re:mma analyst article

I am amazed sometimes at the mentality of the fans. The aftermath of the Machida v Tito fight was one of those times. It isn’t just MMA fans. Plenty of boxing fans thought Gatti v Ward was the greatest fight ever. Maybe it is the short attention spans of the videogame generation, maybe it is just the general dumbing down of society or maybe it has always been that way.

I will agree that i think Machida should make more of an effort to finish fights, but he isn’t running or even avoiding a fight. What he does is fighting. Last Saturday, Tito simply didn’t have the skill to hang with him.

I will also say that there is some legitimate criticism to be directed at the UFC and the ACs. We need to define this sport in a way that recognizes its roots and purpose. The sport should be about finishing your opponent. Pride rules reflected this belief. The unified rules do not. I wish Dana, the UFC and the ACs would revise the scoring criteria and define MMA uniquely, apart from other combat sports like boxing.

BTW, even under Pride rules, Machida would have won.

  2. The Gaijin says:

While it wasn’t the “sweet science”, Gatti vs. Ward was still an amazing fight. The drama, the ebb and flow and momentum changes, the awesome crowd and heart of both fighters transcended the fact that it wasn’t “a technical boxing masterpiece”.

Truly “great” fights involve just as many intangibles as to what occurs within the fight itself.

    13. Charles Jay: MMA upstarts dropping like flies

This article is based on a false premise. The article focuses on the departure of Kelly Perdew from Pro Elite. The author mistakes Perdew’s former position with the company as president of Pro Elite rather than his actual position, which was president of the ProElite.com website.

  4. IceMuncher says:

Well, looks like the UFC is at the top of their game. Hiring a DC lobbying firm to protect their interests and keep MMA off the Boxing reform legislation is a smart move on their part.
