Today’s chalkboard (5/16/08)

By Zach Arnold | May 16, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

I have been busy working on various projects, which have kept me preoccupied for a while now. I am hopeful that within the next month, order will be restored and that I will be able to write some op-eds and give more analysis on what is currently happening in the MMA business. For the time being, I thank all of you for being so loyal and patient with me. It really is appreciated.

From the desk of the CSAC:

Carina Damm, who last competed for Galaxy Productions on April 3, 2008 in Los Angeles, has tested positive for Nandrolone. Her suspension period is in effect from the conclusion of the bout on April 3, 2008 through April 2, 2009. She has been fined $2,500.

Testing was conducted on the sample at Quest Diagnostics and at Laboratoire de controle du dopage in Laval (Quebec), Canada (a WADA certified facility). The nanogram count was reported at 37.9 ng/mL which exceeds the threshold of 2 ng/mL.

Loretta Hunt (now at Sherdog) has a report on the story.

  1. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

Schultz was embarrassingly bad. As a Boston guy it was more painful to see him hauled back into the house after being summarily dispatched than it was to see him lose in the first place, especially with his Pollyanna attitude.

He didn’t represent the city or his studio well at all. One can only hope that in season eight we’re going to see some guys who will bring a better sense of what we have to offer here in terms of training etc.

  2. IceMuncher says:

“More Women Entering The Ring For UFC”

Wow. That headline couldn’t have more mistakes if they tried.

  3. Michaelthebox says:

“Gina Carano wins UFC HW title against Georges St. Pierre”

  4. Scott White says:

Keep up the good work Zach.

  5. klown says:

FightOpinion is still the #1 location for the latest articles, intelligent analysis and decent discussion of MMA.

  6. Ivan Trembow says:

Dana White on Tito Ortiz: “”He beat Ken Shamrock three times. He fought Rashad Evans to a draw. He fought Forrest Griffin when Forrest just came out of The Ultimate Fighter and barely beat him. A lot of people think Forrest won that fight. In my opinion, the last significant fight that Tito Ortiz won was when he beat Vitor Belfort. “”

So Dana White is ripping his own #2 PPV of all time as not being a “significant” fight in the match-up that got 95% of the marketing push for that event. I’m assuming that PPV refund checks are on the way to the fans who bought the show to see such an insignificant fight.

I’m also assuming that the UFC is going to agree retro-actively to a much smaller contract with Spike TV based on TUF 3’s ratings never happening, and Ortiz-Shamrock III never happening. The huge ratings for the latter were a primary reason for Zuffa’s renewal with Spike being so lucrative, yet Ortiz and Ken Shamrock are not given any acknowledgment for the role that their huge rating played in the UFC getting a $100,000,000+ renewal (White even said that Shamrock didn’t make the UFC any money). As is often the case, the hypocrisy here is astounding.
