Friday media frenzy – round one
By Zach Arnold | April 17, 2008
Expect an amazing amount of MMA-related articles to be published today. I’ll try my very best to keep up with all of the action.
On Saturday, we’ll have a brand new edition of Fight Opinion Radio — this time, with a twist. Josh Barnett and Shayna Baszler will be the co-hosts. Speaking of The Babyface Assassin, here is his latest online posting regarding working out in the gym the right way.
Two interesting US state-related articles on MMA regulation – the first regarding Arizona legislation and the second regarding Rhode Island legislation.
Danny Sheridan in USA Today has his odds on this weekend’s UFC fights taking place in Montreal.

Of course, I stop going to train with Santos, move out of RI and then they decide it might be a good idea to commision it there. I’m hoping it goes through, though.
Such a busy media day and that’s the top headline? It’s not even a well-written rebuttal but rather an almost personal attack from someone who has clearly miunderstood the article in the first place.
There’s nothing personal Iain. My point is made but the post is short. That’s just how all sports are run and I disagree with you, that is all.
Both articles sucked, IMO
Montreal crowd would be more excited if Joe Silva included “Quebec VS British Canada” bout in the card.
Cote vs McDonald, Cote vs Dorksen make a lot more sense than Mc vs Dork.
Liddle didn’t write anything in that article that isn’t true.
The UFC hold a weigh in in Montreal, QUEBEC and they couldn’t find anyone able to host it in french and english.
I’m kind of insulted here…
At least GSP translated his own comments.
My god – the Quebecois even bitch on the internet. Are you ever not insulted by something that’s not completely catered to you?
Sorry, but the U.S. doesn’t pander to your whining like the Canadian government does.
I don’t know what you’re talking aboot! We don’t cater to the Quebecers.
OK, we do…but the rest of Canada doesn’t like it.
Surprise no one has mentioned Josh Gross’ move to Sports Illustrated. Something awesome if you ask me.
Did you guys hear the fans yell out “Make the weight!” when Lutter went up. I lol’d pretty hard.
On one of yahoo’s articles about the fight tomorrow:
“It’s not a problem,” Serra said. “I’m just going to get to feel like Tim Sylvia feels in every city.”
lol
I’m not bitching, it’s just about respect. I cant’t remember the last sport event presented in Montreal in french or in english only.
It’s not like hosting a weigh in was an enormous job that only Mike Goldberg is qualified to do it…
Anybody else not really excited about this card? I just want to see GSP win, and the rest of the card is just average. Lots of great names on the card, just no good match-ups.
The next UFC in May is going to be awesome on paper, but this one is kind of bland.
45 — that is how I’ve felt about most UFC cards for a while now. There really isn’t much really exciting me on that card. It feels like the more cards they have, the less enticing they are as they have to spread their big names out. I’m kind of expecting to see a PPV headlined by Kenny Florian sometime soon.
I’ve been on this card FOREVER about this!
Gotta give credit to the UFC for recognizing they can penetrate the Canadian market basically on the back of GSP’s name and being the “UFC’s debut”. The rest of the card is crap and there’s really not one exciting fight – they’re giving us a bunch of fights that should be on UFN and telling us its a great PPV.
I’m in no way excited for this card other than GSP smashing Serra and seeing the Bell Centre crowd, but hats off to the UFC b/c its coming off as being a “huge event”.
This UFC has a great main event, but the supporting fights aren’t so hot. Lutter VS Franklin would be a marquee fight if only these two had a chance in hell of beating Anderson Silva. I really like Franklin, so it’s really sad how outclassed he was by Silva. Since they don’t, it’s a rather pointless match considering the result has no consequence on the middleweight division whatsoever.
Then again, my FTA box is working again, and with a bunch of friends and alcohol (a great friend indeed!), it should be a fun night!
