Monday afternoon chalkboard (12/17/07)

This will be played up in the US gossip media, so get prepared for it:

Matthew McConaughey ended up getting stitches after cutting his face while training for his role as a fighter in an upcoming movie.

The rep said the actor has been doing “UFC training,” which is based on the principles of Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Make sure to tell the people at your local MMA training facility that they’re practicing “UFC training.”

CNBC’s Blood Sport to Big Time special on UFC last Thursday drew good ratings. I wasn’t impressed with the show at all.

Big John McCarthy appeared on Fight Network Radio today to talk about upcoming fights in the MMA scene (audio here). I completely recommend listening to this interview, as McCarthy is an excellent talker.

CompuStrike did fight stats for the HDNet Fights event last Saturday night in Dallas.

Andrei Arlovski still plans on fighting in the UFC.

Dave Meltzer has a new article talking about steroids in MMA (juxtaposing it to the recent Mitchell Report released). If you haven’t ready John Philapavage’s article on this topic already, go read it.

Fightlinker has an interesting companion piece to Jake Rossen’s latest Sherdog article about Zuffa’s Top 10 accomplishments in 2007.

Adam Swift talks about MMA moving forward with or without cooperation from UFC.

An interview with Georges St. Pierre.

Pedro Rizzo has signed a three-fight deal with Art of War (the US promotion).

You’ve got to give the UFC kudos for building such a strong brand name.

  2. Zack says:

There was a report online that UFC PPV prices are going up to 44.95 starting with UFC 81 (Superbowl weekend show.)

  3. Scott White says:

“UFC 81: BREAKING POINT is available live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, Bell ExpressVu, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts ( where available ).”

    What a joke…

  4. klown says:

    Excellent analysis by Adam Swift.
