Quote of the Day – Chuck Norris
By Zach Arnold | December 14, 2007

Chuck Norris aims to start a fight:
“Watching UFC over the last 20 years, when fighters go to the ground, they have become so proficient in avoiding submissions so it becomes boring,” Norris said.

New Chuck Norris fact… he’s been watching the UFC since the 80s
You know it, Catch. And boy were those 1987 UFCs exciting on the ground.
Chuck Norris’ tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried. Ever.
Sorry, couldn’t resist 🙂
Has anyone else bothered to watch any of the WCL shows on TV? It’s like watching a second rate TKD tournament. Well, okay, maybe it’s not *that* bad, but it’s not much better…
That said, Norris’ quote is just gamesmanship. He clearly enjoys MMA, or he wouldn’t have bothered attending PRIDE 32.
Yeah, a lot of the old-school martial artists I know have a problem with MMA. They devoted their entire lives to something they believe in, only to see it disregarded as not “as good” or “as effective” as BJJ.
When they get like that, I tell them “Hey, BJJ is the single most effective technique for defending yourself, one on one. Too bad bar fights are never one on one.” Weirdly, that cheers them up.
But I think Norris has a point. Watching good sprawlers is boring. Give me two adequate strikers or two adequate wrestlers any day over a fantastic striker against a fantastic wrestler. The striker is going to just sprawl, and the wrestler isn’t going to throw a punch. Ultimately, boring.
When Walker Texas Ranger says something about MMA, listen up folks. It’s gotta be true.

I don’t think there is a best martial art for a bar fight. Whoever has the best weapon and the most friends will probably win.

This may be true in the old UFC days. The modern MMA is not like this, or at least I don’t think it is. The top champions today are no longer one dimensional. Rampage, Silva, GSP (okay, not yet champion), and Penn (getting ahead of myself here) are hardly one dimensional. The Liddells, Hughes, and Sherks are a dying breed. They won’t stay champ for long.
I never understood the fascination with Chuck Norris. Charles Bronson & Don Frye were always way cooler.
Wow that was a typo to end all typos….I really should be working lol.
Worked in a nightclub for years and saw many fights…several of our bouncers were into judo, which is excellent for trapping and grounding a drunken idiot (since I’ve never seen a bar fight that didn’t involve grabbing of some sort).
Also saw a bouncer trap a jackass in a rear naked choke (with full bodylock) and put him to sleep.
Having a weapon and several friends can help, but usually the least drunk/stronger guy wins. And since 90% of bar fights are a drunk retard vs. a muscular, sober bouncer…you can see where it will typically go.
Chuck Norris is the reason why Waldo is hiding.
