  1. Ian Dean says:

I also liked how the Evening Times linked “Cage Rage” (when the events is Cage Wars) to gang crime and gang actively.

That article was dire from beginning to end, but is the kind of article that Cage Wars seem to be attracting.

The UFC have a long way to go in the UK to convince people that MMA is acceptable

  2. I don’t think that there is a way to convince some people.

There is a substantial population of people out there who think that boxing is barbaric and backward. There’s another group that thinks that it’s a memento from some gentleman’s time in the distant past.

The UK (well, England at least, not sure about the rest) has even banned the dog assisted fox hunt. A tradition that we continue to uphold in some parts of the US (like my part :D).

In short, I think that there’s always going to be a diversity of opinion on MMA, and that at this point in the US, that is no longer a threat to the sport. The UK may be a different matter altogether, but I’m not particularly concerned about that. After all, even though dog assisted fox hunting is “illegal” it still goes on with some regularity over there and no one seems to actually give a crap.

  3. I don’t know why Big John doesn’t have his own show or something like that. The closest thing is that he appears on Hardcore Sports Radio after every UFC and his comments are always gold. The guy almost always has a unique, interesting and very credible take on whatever issue is being discussed. He needs to be quoted more.

  4. He typically shows up on ATB on the fight network as well. Unfortunately, like almost everyone, I can’t get the fight network.

  5. Zack says:

It’s hard for me to not resent Big John and Ken Shamrock for lobbying against the Pride rules when they were presented to the CSAC.

  6. The Gaijin says:

^ I have no idea why they’d be doing that!?!? *rolls eyes*

  7. klown says:

How much do refs make and who pays their salary?

  8. GassedOut says:

I don’t know what they’re paid, but they work for the athletic commission sanctioning the event.

  9. Ian Dean says:

Oh the irony of Ken Shamrock lobbying against Pride and i believe saying the cage and “Unified Rules are safer. Only to then fight in the Pride ring a year or so later.

  10. Zack says:

It wasn’t even a year later that he took the Sakuraba fight.

  11. Jonathan says:

I cannot believe the Pele Landi-Johns got decimated so quickly. I remember watching one of his early highlights and thinking that this guy was just a genetic fighting freak…and to see how his career has turned out is really sad…especially considering that he is only 34 years old. But when you fight the kind of fights that he has fought for 16 years, it is easy to take a heavy toll.
