  1. 45 Huddle says:

    The WEC payouts are interesting.

Rob McCullough – $24,000 – Slightly underpaid, but his next contract should be bigger. I would peg Rob at around $40,000 per win.

Chase Beebe – $10,000 – Underpaid without question. However, those Bantamweights have no leverage at all. Should be interesting to see what Zuffa pays him once his contract comes up. I would be shocked if it is above $30,000 per fight.

Miguel Torres – $20,000 – Zuffa obviously has faith in this guy for offering him $10/$10. The guy is basically undefeated since he got revenge on his only loss.

John Alessio – $22,000 – This guy is overpaid. Sorry, but I would never pay to watch him, and it sounded like his last fight was the same old John Alessio who is afraid to fight.

  2. 45 Huddle says:

As for the IFL…. I love this company because they do everything at the same level.

    Stock Price = Lame
    TV Production = Lame
    DVD Cover Art = Lame

IFL = Intentionally F#cking Lame…. Okay, that was a little harsh, but hard to resist….

  3. flying scissor heel hook says:

Rob McCullough in my estimation solidified himself as a top ten lightweight with his performance. When will we see WEC champions face UFC champions? Especially if guys like McCullough and Filho dominate their divisions and crush all contenders. Maybe in a few years after WEC builds of a steady fan base. He shoould see a bump in his salary if he holds on to the belt.

As for other WEC fighter salaries…
If Chase Beebe continues to dominate I pay raise would be in order even though 135lbs. is new to casual mma fans.

Miquel Torres is a beast!! His highlights are fantastic. Even though he unknown to most fans once they get to see this guy in a few fights he’ll be considered underpaid

John Alesio – Not a big fan but heres hoping he turns it up a notch. $20,000 might be over paying especially with the ton of Japanese fighters in limbo.

    The IFL has DVD’s? Newsflash

  5. klown says:

I haven’t seen any IFL, since I don’t have a TV and their fights aren’t available online. So when I read here they had a DVD coming out I seriously intended to buy it. Then I clicked the link, read the title, saw the cover and just Xed the window.

  6. Fluyid says:

First show of Cuban’s compay will be the second week of October in Dallas.

    You heard it here first.

And NOW I read the damned article. It says what I’ve already posted in the article.

    Fluyid is a fool.

  7. Manos says:

I sincerely wish I hadn’t noticed that link to the IFL dvd.

It looks like the kind you buy in gas stations next to “Faces of Death” and “Wild Partying Girls”

  8. Zack says:

Zach…do you know a ballpark figure of what the lighter weight guys make in Shooto/ZST/Pancrase?

  9. Zach Arnold says:

Most of them are only making $2-3,000 USD at the top of the cards at Korakuen or Differ.

  10. David says:

I am surprised I didn’t subconsciously bitch about how shitty the lighter weight fighters get paid.

  11. Iain Liddle says:

“We also thought it was important that we clearly convey our independence from the UFC organization,” said Eric Foster, MMAjunkie.com vice president of operations.

I’m not having a dig because I sometimes read their site, but it’s ultimately an internet blog. Do they need such pretentious ‘job’ titles?

  12. Jordan Breen says:

“Zach…do you know a ballpark figure of what the lighter weight guys make in Shooto/ZST/Pancrase?”

ZST is the poorest paying of all of them. Many guys at the top of cards are making 1-2 K tops but sometimes because of ZST’s affiliations with Golds Gym, guys get supplements.

Because Shooto runs an exhaustive range of fighters at various stages of goodness, the payscales greatly vary. I’ve heard of Class B fighters making as little as 400-500 USD, and getting bonus prizes like supplements and gear for winning. Your big big Shooto guys make between 5K and 10K. I know that Pequeno made just under 10K for his title defenses, and Shaolin made a little under that for his post-title win fights.

Pancrase I think are relatively in the same ballpark, though they pay more to foreign imports on average (they also are always actively looking to bring in more of them), and when they splurge for big dollar guys, it usually costs them a little more (the difference between say Kondo for Pancrase and Sato for Shooto).

  13. Zack says:

    Thanks fellas.

  14. Jeremy (Not that Jeremy) says:

I think very few people in the US have actually watched Pancrase events, so they don’t appreciate that they operate events in what would pass for high school gymnasiums here. This is a significantly smaller scale operation than something like UFC or Pride.

For all that though, I think that the quality of the fights is excellent. I really enjoy watching Pancrase.
