I don’t think Johnnie Morton started using when he started training for MMA. He was probably beating the system in the NFL for a long time, as are many other players. He may have increased his use to gain weight, and misjudged the clearance time of the testosterone ester he was using.
It is common for black-market steroids to be mislabeled, making it easy to screw this up. He could have had a bottle labeled “testosterone propionate” which clears your system in two weeks, but it was actually the more common “testosterone enanthate,” which can take 3 months.
As Kalib Starnes has pointed out, testing only before a fight invites people to play this game.
Morton was a complete joke at K-1 Dynamite. He was roided, under-trained and completely mismatched. He deserves what he is getting from the CSAC. I think the best punishment was the K-1 cameras focusing in on him being KTFO after Ackah owned his ass.
I don’t think he was mismatched. He went up against a comedian who was only 2-0. Who are they supposed to put him against?
Mismatched in hindsight. There bound to be mismatches early in one’s career, there’s no sample (or not enough of one) to judge how good a fighter really is. I don’t think it’s an indictment on the CSAC’s oversight, just for Morton’s skills in general.
And I don’t know about overtraining, he didn’t look like he had a clue what he was doing in there.
oh, you said under-trained… nevermind about the overtraining point.
