Sunday media review: All UFC, all the time
By Zach Arnold | June 3, 2007

Tonight is WEC from Las Vegas on The Versus Network. The Versus Network is the home of the National Hockey League and has long been a media punchline due to supposedly nobody knowing what the channel is or being able to get it on a basic cable package. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs drew a 0.72 cable rating. Will WEC become the network’s big ticket item?
Shannon Briggs lost on Saturday night. More details at Boxing Scene.
On Thursday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission will have their monthly meeting. Two interesting notes in their agenda list: 1) Zuffa LLC wants a waiver for a reality TV event and 2) K-1 wants to book the Bellagio Hotel Grand Ballroom for an event on August 11th.
An idiotic letter in the Albany Times-Union on the MMA/dogfighting link.

They just need to have smart people period, I could careless whether or not they are American or Japanese. I mean when they said they would be holding it at the Memorial Coliseum, that was a major red flag.
I wrote a long ass post about that already but simply put there’s nothing common about common sense.
They could have really turned it into something special but it was just a half-assed effort from the start. The problem isn’t the Japanese side of the company, it’s whoever is allowed to run the show over here. And whoever those English speaking idiots are, I’ll guarantee you that they had little or no fear of any consequences from K-1.
Wow. I am hearing really good stuff about the WEC 27 event. Might this be my long awaited replacement for Bushido? I like the idea of having smaller weight. smaller shows because they really showcase talent and not just a simple one two take down and gNp. I liked Bushido, and if I can get my hands on the WEC event, I think that I will like it as well.
BTW, I am going to recommend that if any guys here like what the WEC is offering, to check out some Shooto Back To Our Roots 1,2, or 3, or some DEEP Impact 21,23,28, or 29. They insane stuff in Japan with the smaller weight fighters.
I call it feeding my Pride fix.
I am going to say it now, from what I saw of WEC, I think I like it better than UFC. Now, I must check out stuff like Shooto, DEEP, go back to Pancrase, etc.
Personally, I’m shocked that The Ring had any fans at all after it was exposed that Johnny Orr was Don King’s bitch-boy bribe taker. I guess people were used to the fact that Tex Rickard, Mike Jacobs, Chris Dundee, etc. bribed writers for years in order to get favorable reports for their fighters…?
